I see inspiration for a birthday present here if it is coming up. Maybe not a set of drawers but you could attach mirrored tiles to something else that you could pick up at a car boot or ikea or a charity shop.

It's amazing to me that people turn up their noses at the thought of not wasting money. Guess some people just can't see the sense in being savvy about how you spend your hard earned cash. Each to their own. I'm by no means a true MSE as I don't have vinegar yet but I'm getting there.MFW 2015 #41 = £20,515/£20,515
MFW 2014 #41 = £26,100/£25,000

I have the vinegar, haven't used it yet as I am still using the fabric conditioner I stockpiled on BOGOF
and using half a capful instead of a full one it is lasting a lot longer than expected and I'm still getting the same results and my washing machine doesn't smell of garlic anymore?
I know I will never convert my parents, they're in their seventies and very set in their ways, the trouble is that because of my recent penny pinching ways Mum keeps slipping me a tenner every week because she thinks I'm hard upI keep telling her I don't want it but she thinks I'm just being proud and leaves it somewhere where I will find it.
I've started putting it into a savings account now and treating it as my inheritance in advance!Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Just remembered, my mum (who's nearly 70) tells all her friends that I'm cooking the"way they used to" and one grandma who picks up from my son's school, thinks I'm the bees knees because of my Ol' style ways. However, they still think I'm mad when I say I use vinegar in my wash and you should have seen the look on my sisters' faces when I mentioned I use bicarb as a deodorant! (Best I've ever used, actually)1

I've actually got to then end of this month with some money still left in my bank account, all thanks to MSE and it's members.
At work they think I'm odd bringing in my own food rather than buying a sandwich and chocolate bar at lunch time. They always take a look at what I am eating though and want to know what it is.
Today it was an extra portion from the slow cooker meal last night (pork (reduced stickered of course), apple, cider, celery and onions with herbs for additional flavour), two BOGOF yogurt drinks poured into a glass and 2 slices of wholemeal bread on the side (yummy and something to look forward to all morning). The usual complaint is that they don't have time (but I'm considered the busiest person in our office and I still manage to pull together meals to take in for my hubbie and I). They would all like to cut down the cost of the sandwiches but are not actually prepared to put in the time and effort
I do give them the lowdown ... using a slow cooker, extra portions, healthy eating etc ....
To be honest, the works microwave is only used by me ... and they've just replaced it with a new one!Enjoying an MSE OS life1 -

I have the same problem, no one i reccomend this site to listens to me but when they see i can cook a meal for 2 people for less than theirs for 1 person and have enough left over to freeze for another meal later they are absolutely gob smacked and wonder where i get the info from and how i do it. I give up with themmy son was just as difficult untill he saw just how much money is going into a seperate pot from the food allowance considering how much better we are both eating these days

Had one friend on the phone this morning - complaining at the amount of dust the builder is producing whilst putting in her new bathroom, (the bathroom he's taken out was still fine, just apparently the wrong colour??) She was harping on about how little time she has as it is let alone to clean the house again because of the dust....times so precious etc etc etc.... in the 18 mins she spent on the phone,(I was on my cordless one) I made 2 bathches of pastry, one for the freezer, one for quiche for lunch, weighed out pizza dough ingredients and stuck the machine going, unloaded the dishwasher and emptied the washing machine....QUOTE]
I did that earlier today only dozy me managed to drop the phone into bowl of water i was washing the dishes in, the person on the other end of the phone wondered what i was doing when i hurridly fished it out and proceeded to dry it off with a t towel1 -
I work in Tesco on the checkout at weekends - and have to bite my tongue sometimes as the shopping is going thru......
the amount of people who buy a tiny bag of diced onion for about 89p when for the same price they could get a kilo of onions and dice them themselves [and freeze the extra in portion sizes]
and i am sooooooooooooo tempted to ask people if they have considered cloth nappies/washable wipes/re-usable san-pro....... and don't get me started on jars of baby food:rotfl:five children? I must be mad........ :rotfl:

Most of my friends laugh, but ask me for tips. A few weeks ago I went out for dinner with some friends. They met up with some people I didn't know and we all sat a large table. When I got from the loo I found my friends telling their friends all about my money saving. I got quizzed all evening for advice!1

I ask this as OH is sitting in the front room and doing something which surprised me - knitting!
And he's a youngster - 33 yr old, doesn't looklike someone who knits, whatever that is!
He has also passed on some hints to his workmates about the things I do - his fave one was freezing leftover roast potatoes.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
I have done reading too!
