Can Talk Talk Put Its Broadband Price Up?

Talk Talk have recently increased price I pay for broadband from £13.01 to £16.82. Surely, under English contract law, any change in the contract terms by one party renders the contract invalid? If so, then I intend to change my ISP asap - BT's deal seems good.

Are you on non-LLU? (TT's LLU broadband is "free").

But yes, any change to your contract terms that is to your material detriment allows you to invoke the get-out clause. NOTE: you only have a limited time (10 days?) from receipt of notification to invoke this clause. If you wait too long you'll be deemed to have accepted the change.

I'm assuming you are in fact in a contract? (If your previous contract has expired then you'll be on a rolling monthly contract, in which case you only need to give them 30 days notice of cancellation).

It's not a fixed price contract-they can increase it at any time they like. However, if the increase is detrimental then you can invoke your right to leave without penalty if still in minimum term. That term has generally been interpreted as allowing an increase in line with the RPI-yours clearly exceeds that.
