Engineer charges on non-BT packages

I was seriuosly thinking of having a Talk-Talk phone/broadband package untill I saw the price of the engineers call out.
With the above, as with several others, your line rental switches to the new provider. This means that BT no longer look after your line, which I believe they do for free. The price of engineering work with TalkTalk is £55 an hour! (minimum 1 hour).
I just wondered if anyone had been hit by this in the past, and how far could this work go? For example, if your telephone line from your house was the only one to a telegraph pole and that blew over, would you be expected to pay towards putting it back? I know that is an extreme case, but it makes me wonder how far "your line" extends.

I'd have thought so to.
It's just that a couple of years ago I had to have the line replaced that ran along the side of the house. Of course, we phoned BT and it was done for free. I hope other companies do the same thing.0 -
any electrician can do this for you
their the guys that install the cables anyway....bt engineers don't generally do this0
