Morning all, it was lovely and warm here this morning but with all the rain it's got cold, i'm trying to decide between heat and fire, if i lite the fire i'll run out of coal tonight, hubby gave me money to go get 2 bags but then he pinched our car so i tthink i'll save the coal, fires are nice in the evening and it def kept us warm all night.I'll stick the clothes horse infront of it when i go to bed aswell so it will have 2 uses :)

Dinner tonight will be nice and cheap, sheperds pie made with hald a packet of value mince, a packet of instant mash and served with some mashed turnip from a huge 80p one i bought last year which did 4 dinner portions of mashed, and 6 cubed portions, it took me ages to prepare and freeze i had forgotten it was in there tbh.

£233 adding to the savings this morning bring me to £2395.80

savings so far this month stand at £1486.11/£1250

Doing my budget for Oct, i'm starting a new part time job there will be some desil used and i've been going over on desil as it doesn't quite last the full month so heres my budget

    outgoings

    rent -£150
    desil £100
food-£200 (hoping for atleast half of this)
    entertainment-£200
    coal-£30
    mobile £31
    total outgoings= £711

    income=£2065

so my savings aim for next month will be £1100 hopefully i'll do as well as this month and go over

My entertainment budget is so high because we're having an proper date night ;) we're having dinner then going to se estand up, tickets are already bought and i'm hoping my 2 for 1 diningcard will be back intime.

Food budget is high but this is acually my normal budget and setting a low budget doesn't seem to be working for me so i'm just going to try spend as little of my normal budget as possible.

Not sure when i will be paid for the new job, won't be a huge amount anyway but it will be added to our savings, should also receive £100 back from my friend which will also go in my savings.

    hi

how was your pork? i don't think i'd serve it with pasata unless it was a nice creamy one, i'm having pork roast on tue and pulled pork on wed :)

the pork was supposed to be for a roast dinner but then the bf decided he wanted to go out last night and I couldnt be bothered to cook all the potatos and veg just for me! So had a pasta'n'sauce that I had in the cupboad....it was quite a nice combination actually and doing the roast pots, carrots and parsnips with it tonight!!!

Really looking forward to a nice warm roast dinner after the weather we are having today!!

Congratulations on the part time job...might not be a lot but it all adds up!!!

Sounds yummy, thanks it's only 2 hrs a week and 1 hr every other weekend but it's good pay. nothing like a nice hot dinner, i'm having pork roast with all the trimmings tomorrow :) pork is si much cheaper than beef and you have to admit when it's slowcookered it's really yummy and just as nice and beef or chicken :)

Morning all, i have a banging head ache, and it's really wet and cold here, yesterdays washing is still on the clothes horse wet :(

Suppose to be getting a few bags of coal today but right now i don't feel up to it.

Pork in the slowcooker, going to jump in the bath then make some scarmbed egg on toast and maybe a sausage to hopefully make me feel better.

No change moneywise other than i have £16 in my bank after my halfcost order came out, i'm waiting on hubby getting paid for last week to top up my buffer but i don't need anything anyway.

  • Oh no made that mistake before !!. No kindlers either i take it. Well all i can suggest and this can be a bit hit and miss is roll the newspaper pages really tight i mean really tight then place them on your grate put a wee bit of coal on them and hopefully your fire will start if you've done it tight enough. Good luck. P.s. well done with your savings your doing really well.

thank you but i tried that i'm gonna nip to town for some firelighters i think, i replied to a gumtree add for a coal bucket as right now i'm using a metal bucket that i had bought for ashes, if they reply with there address i'll stop in tesco on the way (or a filling sation it depends where they live, on the plus side it's a coal scuttle with shovel for £10 :)

Is your only heating via coal quintwins? The pulled pork sounds yummy, is it just a pork joint in the slow cooker then shredded?

Yeah pretty much, you can mix it in with the juices but i find it juicy enough as it is :) we're having it as a roast tonight it smells yummy, you need to pull the pork when it's hot so i'll be doing that tonight.

no we have oil heating which i had on this morning but i found the house got cold again quickly, you have to remeber we have a tin roof, where as the fire kept the hosue warm for over 12 hrs after i had last put stuff on it :) def going to focus more on coal and free wood.

    oh wow thunder!!!
