Vigil Security - to pay or not?

If there's one thing I've learnt from this thread, it's to ignore all tickets disseminated by private companies! A friend has had recently been issued with a ticket for nearly £200 from Vigil Security - she has a right to park, but on this occasion did not display her pass.
I've searched this forum and the most recent thread is from 2010, it seems that Vigil Security is a bona fide firm - but does that mean they have powers of enforcement? I think they may have been acting on behalf of a local authority but cannot be certain. Has anyone had any recent experience with them?
TIA! - VfM

A local authority parking ticket would not be for that amount of money."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Just ignore them and in the time you would have taken to contact them read all the posts from others on here and reassure yourself that it will soon stop.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Does the ticket mention the Road Traffic Act? I suspect not. Did this heinous crime (not diplaying a permit?? Off to the Tower with them!!) take place on public Highway or a private car park (by the sounds of it?). As maninthestreet says, if it was on behalf of a council it would be for £50 or £60 or so.
So to answer your question - No, they do not have the powers of enforcement. No Parking sounds to me like trespass. In which case ONLY the landowner (not a parking company they have employed) or a representative solicitor could bring an action of trespass against anyone.
That's before we get to the point, that not diplaying a pass doesn't make your friend a trespasser anyway.
By all means let us know if the ticket DOES mention the Road Traffic Act, but in the meantime, ignore the ticket, and ignore all the scary letters that they will send threatening all sorts of legal scary stuff, which in actual fact is meaningless rubbish.Je Suis Cecil.0 -
Thanks for the replies so far, I think she'll be pleased but I will ask her for more detail as suggested.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Before anything is ignored ensure they are not acting for a council, you can tell by who the payment is to and who the appeal is also to. But at £200 it doesn't look like a local authority pcnExcel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -
I have asked my friend to join the forum and provide more details so she can be sure of her position. Thanks all.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

There's no need for her to join; it's simple.
Private = Ignore, ignore, ignore some more.
Really it's that simple, there's nothing 'special' about your friend's circumstances that would in any way, shape or form alter the answer 'Private = Ignore, ignore, ignore some more'.
They don't need to be sure of their position - Private = Ignore, ignore, ignore some more.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why then you're as thick and stupid as the moderators on here - MSE ForumTeam0
