Call forwarding when abroad

HI,

I would like to ask your advice please. I have an orange pay monthly mobile phone. I have set-up call forwarding to a landline number and it seems to work fine- even with my phone switched off it works fine. I called Orange to check with them that the call forwarding minutes would come about of my allowance- they said yes.

Then, I told them I was going abroad and does the same apply? They became more difficult then with less clear answers.

Does anyone know?

1. If my phone is off I guess the system will think I am still in the UK and therefore the forward will come out of my minutes? Is this correct?

2. What happens if I turn my phone on once just to check if I have any texts then put it back to off- will they then know I am abroad or will turning it back off just revert back to point 1?

Thanks for any advice you might be able to give me! Hope this all makes sense.

    Use the following codes:

    All calls: **21*destination#

    Conditional diverts:
    On unavailable: **62*destination#
    On no reply: **61*destination#
    On engaged: **67*destination#

Dial the above codes, replacing "destination" with the destination number. If you're abroad, only do the all calls divert in order to avoid charges for conditional diverts.

Great, thank you very much- so my question is- if I have a divert on all calls and leave my phone on (so I can get texts), will I get charged roaming or will it just come out of my included minutes?

If you divert all calls (an unconditional divert), you will not be charged for roaming. It should come out of your included minutes. If you use a conditional divert (e.g. on unavailable), you would be charged for an incoming roaming call and then for a divert from the visited country to the destination number.

Brilliant- thanks. I have an iphone and it won't let me use **21* but I have put on the number and all calls appear to be diverted. I guess I can still leave on to receive texts?

I have an iPhone (also on Orange) and the codes definitely work. Make sure you enter the # at the end after the destination number.

By the way, you can also check the status by dialling *#21# etc.

Great- it says voice call forwarding "on all calls" enabled

I can still send and receive texts without a problem?

Yes, these diverts only affect calls, not texts. There's a full list of the codes at http://www.geckobeach.com/cellular/secrets/gsmcodes.php
