PAC switchover from Virgin to O2

I've got my PAC from Virgin and am waiting for my new phone to arrive from O2. I will then need to give my PAC to O2 to get my number ported across. I have received the following text from Virgin: "We've just cancelled your Virgin xxx tariff. Don't forget to use it up by 15/07/12."
Given that I am partly switching away from Virgin due to their rubbish computer system and billing I have no great faith that the switchover will go smoothly. Is the above message what I should be seeing at this stage?

makes sense to me. Looks like your virgin account will be active until the 15th July so your number is still being used on that account. Assuming your new phone arrives in the next few days, just pass on your PAC to O2 as soon as you get the phone, and job will be done.

Don't look for problems before they arise.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

I think it will go smoothly, but the message doesn't make much sense. The contract gets cancelled only when the number is ported. If you don't use the PAC the contact goes on.

They don't say they have cancelled the contract, they say they have cancelled the tariff, meaning that they shouldn't ask for any more payments from the bank, and you won't be able to use VM services after that date.

OP, you might want to cancel the DD at your bank

OK, thanks both. I'm trying not to worry about it but previous experience with Virgin has made me a little nervous.......

I don't see how what you say is different from cancelling the contract. And no way can this mean that they will not take any more payments as this depends on the actual usage if the OP goes over the allowances and on using the PAC before it expires. If the last bill was dated, say, the 10th and the notice was given (PAC issued) on, say, the 20th then there are charges for at least 10 days pro-rata yet to be billed and taken.
That's why the final bill is issued only after the number is ported and the contract cancelled.

I would never do this, but each to their own.
