They can leave a message and if it's the police I'm pretty sure they'll chap your door if it's that important.
Answering machines are great too because errr.. welll they answer the call in a mechanical manner.
I'm still not sure why people feel like they must without fail answer every phone call. It's almost as if they want something to do.0 -
For some types of call, eg telling you that a relative has died, it would be inappropriate to leave a message on an answer phone.0

Although im sure in these cases, other methods of contact such as mobiles would be used or a simple please call the hospital regarding X]0 -
Gosh not posted on the forum in what must be two years nearly ?
Anyhow...
Its not "cold calls" the data has been purchased from websites which a small statement will say that they will pass your information on to third partys.
The data can legally be sold multiple times to many partys.
The simple way to avoid these is to not use a real phone number on websites such as comaprethemarket gocompar etc...
If you do get a cold call, politely stop them and explain you wish to have your information removed from their database.0 -

How many times have you been called in your life about a death? Personally just three times and one of those was a dog.
I think people treat answering the telephone far too lightly (just the same as the scum that think it's OK to abuse the telecom services including landline, email and text) and really there's so many ways of not speaking to strangers. We don't talk to just anyone who walks up to you on the street so that can be applied in your home -where it's even easier.
Gullible people (no matter their age) will always be scammed sometime in their life because they are daft. It's not usually got anything to do with them being 'old' either because they've been the same all their life. Of course genuinely vulnerable people are a different matter and that's not an easy one to solve I'm afraid.
There weren't too many vulnerable people on that Panorama 'show'. Mostly daft people.0
