All the policies available seem to be annual policies but I just needed one for a few weeks, anyone know where I can get on? If at all???

I know I could get a normal policy and cancel it under the 14 day clause but would rather not and I wouldn't be able to if I needed to claim.

Did read the article:

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1094823518,14076,

But doesn't really help much, did say the below about European cover, but there is no options below?! Or am I missing something???

CHEAPEST 'AUTOSERVICE' INCLUDING COVER FOR EUROPE

Phone and web broker Quotelinedirect* has an exclusive deal with Europ Assistance for a ?59 annual ?AutoService? policy covering any individual vehicle (less than 20 years old) for a year. This includes home-start, and onward travel for passengers plus up to 90 days a year cover in Europe. It's worth noting though, that if you're likely only to go to Europe once during the year, it is better to stick with a UK-only policy and take European cover out just for the specific trip (using the options below).

You've got to look at it as £59 for your breakdown cover, regardless of how long it's for. You say you need it for 'a few weeks', so that works out at about £20 a week or so, which doesn't sound too bad.

What if I took out one of the cheapest policies and then just added European cover for the period I needed it, any done that?

Just spotted with the Tesco one you can get 8 days (£45) or 22 (£65) days European cover, it's not clear if it's a policy on it's own or is an additional part to the annual policy. Anyone know? Otherwise guess I'll call them.

I don't have any cover at present and just needed some for a few weeks while on a trip round Europe.

Just rung Tesco, might help someone else but the European cover is just that for the period selected, eitehr 8 or 22 days, seems a bit much compared to the one on the article unless the leaflets in-store give you a lot of points and you convert them to deals...

RAC Advised me you can do it but can't tell me how much unless I take up a policy first, how helpful!

Autonational were much more helpful and do short-term cover at different levels for different durations, they even pointed me to their website:
