Virgin PAYG for internet

I just bought my first phone with the ability to connect to the internet (Galaxy Ace) on virgin PAYG. Probably should have asked this at the shop but:

I am trying to work out how to connect to the internet without it costing me an arm and a leg (and having to call the virgin customer services who have driven me mad of the last couple of days)

I don't really understand anything about data roaming (do I have to switch this on?) and don't anticipate using the internet a lot - probably 2-3 times a week at most for 20 minutes.I

The virgin website says I can pay 50p a day or £5 a month but I am not sure how I do this on PAYG.

Any help would be great - sorry if I sound completely stupid:o

Roaming means using a phone with, say, Virgin sim on other networks, normally when you are abroad.
and don't anticipate using the internet a lot - probably 2-3 times a week at most for 20 minutes.
Normally if mobile data is not switched off your phone is likely to keep using it in the background without asking you.

£5 is 1Gb data bundle that lasts for 1 month. Otherwise you pay 50p per day for up to 25MB and £2 per MB for everything above £25Mb.

You are likely to do better with some of Talkmobile sim-only contracts. They use Vodafone too.

Thanks for that grumbler - I had started filling that link in before but then though that it may not be what I wanted.

I will see how I get on with it before trying others.
