Getting around in barcelona

Hi there,
I'm going to Barcelona this Saturday for 6 nights (7-13th July) with my Mrs (can't wait!). Just looking for advice on the most economical way of getting around whilst there.
I believe we can buy a set of 10 tickets in one go for using on the metro and buses - its it cheapest to keep buying these or would some sort of a pass be better for us?
I've also heard about the "Barcelona card" which includes transport usage and some other free stuff - is it worth it?
Finally, looking to work out a route from hotel to airport (and back). We're happy to travel by the Aerobus bus. Is there a TFL type website I can use to get the route? Hotel we're staying at:
Acevi Villaroel
C/Villarroel, 106
Barcelona 08011
Will appreciate any advice/help!
Thanks.

i think i've found the answer to my aerobus question:
aerobusbcn.com
having said that, i believe that jet2 flights use terminal 2A and i cannot see that on the bus route. Any ideas anyone?0 -
It depends what you want to see, really, as it is pretty easy to get around on foot.0

I think I bought a certain amount of days underground pass.. + travelled around by underground. Not totally sure its the cheapest way but it can't be far off...0

hi polly05, i've heard that the barcelona underground gets cramped and also that it is prone to be targeted by pick pockets - how was your experience?0 -
All Barcelona transport is a pickpocket risk (including getting into and out of the Metro stations - I have been the victim of it on 3 occasions. I doubt if there is any way of reducing the risk to zero (it also happens on the busy streets, particulary Las Ramblas) but I don't think that should put you off using the public transport system, which is actually pretty good. I never found the Metro to be particularly crowded outside peak times, certainly less so than London. I've always used the 10 trip tickets, which can be used on the Metro and buses. As geri says, a lot of it can be done on foot anyway, but when it's hot the Metro is much less tiring than walking, and some of places you're likely to want to see, such as La Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell and Montjuic are far enough away that public transport is a good option.0

Well it depends upon your definition of "cramped". If you can cope with the Central Line on the Tube at 8am on a morning then the Barcelona Metro is a luxurious in comparison.
All of the city, especially the transport system and the areas around Las Ramblas are a pickpocket targets. Most visitors there have stories to tell but as long as you take the usual precautions then you should be fine. Just don't carry around any more money than you need for the day and leave passports and spare bank card in the hotel.0 -
I was in Barcelona last year and found that the majority of places were easy enough to get around by foot as long as you have a good map!0

Aerobus A2 serves Terminal2, which is really 2A & 2B & 2C, one bus, one bus stop. Have flown Jet2 to Barcelona myself several times (from LBA) and always used the Aerobus. It's not an issue going into town, the correct bus is outside the terminal, but upon return make sure you get the A2 to T2 and not an A1 to T1! Cost was about €5 each, each way. Both A1 and A2 Aerobus terminate at Plaza de Catalunya in Central Barcelona.0 -
I found the underground to be unbearably hot...felt I just couldn't get a breath! On foot was fine and my husband had drummed it into me..."WATCH OUT FOR DIPS" so I was paranoid about someone robbing me.
Have a wonderful time. It's a great place to go. Walking down Las Ramblas then sitting on the beach with a glass of wine Mmmmmmm I could go now.0 -
It really is the most amazing city.0
