Best website for selling/recycling old broken laptops?

There's so many websites for recycling old laptops out there, I wonder if anyone could recommend one? Specifically for laptops that don't work?

Had been intending to sell my old laptop, but then it finally died and I haven't managed to fix it :/.... will any sites buy it for spares?

Might go the ebay route if that's the best option? I've seen a very similiar model to mine, non-working, on sale for £200  ...they must be crazy

Ebay is the best bet. Many are worth more in parts than working, especially for 3 year old or newer models.

People like my friend buy them because they have the gear to reball the main chips on the motherboard or replace them if they're faulty whereas the average laptop repairer would just change the entire motherboard.

Remove the hard drive if you can't wipe it before getting rid.

I guess ebay it is then.... The post it with ParcelMonkey (?)

The hard drive will be staying with me, as will the charger. There's nowhere else on the computer that personal data is stored right?

it'll be worth more if you take your data off the hdd and then reinstall windows (factory restore) and leave the hdd in it.....

As above. Download and run DBAN
Nothing will be recoverable after that but be aware it'll also scrub the recovery partition so create a restore disc first if possible.

how do I reinstall windows if the computer won't boot up

Unless I put the hard drive back in the caddy (how I got my files off it) and install windows that way? is that possible?

Can you install it as a primary drive in another PC / laptop?

You may be able set your BIOS to start from a USB device such as a cradle.

Similar question to above - my laptop is completely dead, not able to get a spark of life out of it. Local bod said it was beyond economical repair. I'm happy to sell it for spares if I can get a few quid, but as I'm not able to do anything to wipe any data off it, I want to make sure it's safe to send off elsewhere.
I am a serious non- techie - if you tell me I need to remove the hard drive you'll also have to give me an idiots guide in what, where and how, preferably in words of one syllable or less.

You'll be better off removing the hard drive. Just say what brand and model of laptop it is and there's every chance someone will be able to tell you how to remove the drive.
