Whatever you do don't go with BT total broadband. The service is shocking and full of glitches. Our contract is up in June and we won't be able to switch quick enough!Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043
Que sera, sera.0 -
I am with BT at the moment. My contract is up in April and i am looking at alternatives purely on a cost basis. I have never had any problems with BT though.......... in fact they will be a hard act to follow.
I have Sky tv and to switch to them would save me approx £21 a month. I am just not sure how reliable they are so, i will read these boards and make my decision after that.0 -
there was an promotional stall of Vergin Media
the sales guy told me that he could get internet for £10 per month
2MB unlimited access but there will installation charge of £25 or something i'm not intairely sure about the installation figure. If electricty comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?0 -
I am with BT Broadband option 1 (£17.99 mth) and have just reduced my package cost by £4 a month and trebbled my speed! Read on,
Go to https://www.bt.com, navigate to the broadband page.
Click the link how fast can we go in your area.
Type in your BT phone number,GO.
Record the speed available.
Go to https://www.speedtester.bt.com, carry out the test. (this tests the actual speed your computer is getting)
Record the result.
So at this stage you've got two results in Kilo bits per second or if your fortunate Mega bits per second.
Compare the two, even if they match call BT and tell them your thinking of taking a faster offer.
They'll check the highest possible line capability for your line.
For me it was trebble what I was receiving, they offered to bump me up to the maximum speed and took £4 off my monthly bill.
Catch 22, I was recontracted for another 12 months, to be expected really.0 -
I spent over 3 months thinking and wondering whether to change my broadband ISP, and like everyone else, I too kept looking up different forums to see what others had to say - the negative and positive. Whichever one you choose, someone will have a negative opinion and I also think there are more negative opinions on providers - people who have problems are more likely to post.
I was with ntlfreedom now virgin media and the connection was reliable (if something went wrong, which it did a while ago they were a nightmare) but I was paying £24.99 a month for 2mb bb and talk. I eventually took the plunge and went for sky MID package £26 a month which includes sky tv 6 pack, 8mb bb and talk. I had sky tv already at £15 a month and together with broadband/talk I was paying £39.99 a month - saving £13.99 a month did help making my decision, at the same time hoping I would not regret it!
I ordered on 1st March and was given estimated connection date 12th March - I was connected on 10th March. My experience of switching provider has been easy without a hitch and a good result. I will say though after reading so much about different problems people have had and are having with providers, I was extremely nervous. I suppose I am one of the lucky ones.0 -
I have been with NTL (now Virgin) for years and the service has always been very reliable. Do make sure that you call for special deals - I call back every 3 months and always get a reasonable deal. Also, I actually get the speeds that are advertised which is not how it is on a lot of ADSL connections apparently.0
