Would you block someone in this scenario?

Someone has made me an offer on a brand new item. They bought the same item, but used, 3 days ago. It's a baby item that you generally only need 1 of.

You don't know whether that sale fell through. What they do with their other transactions is up to them - I wouldn't let it prejudice things as long as they paid.

There have been times when I've been tempted to cancel and block simply on someone's name and feedback (which as it turned out was justified), but I usually give the benefit of the doubt. I certainly don't get enough bids to cancel willy-nilly - so I suppose it depends on whether there's enough other people buying to justify cancelling this sale, particularly at a time when I've found it slow-going.

I should've put - they've left positive feedback for the used item confirming they received it.

I'm confident it will sell, so I have actually blocked this bidder. Just wondered whether I was being a bit paranoid.

    Ok. It's your decision.

I personally don't think it's any of my business what someone buys, but then you are presumably a business seller and I'm just trying to shift personal stuff.

What is to stop them buying for a friend? Maybe they bought the first one for a friend and liked it so opted to by a new one for themselves or vice versa, unless they have bad feedback comments for none payment why would you block.
If I wanted a product and then chose to buy the same for a family member or friend would that make me less likely to want to buy or be excluded from further purchases of the same thing!

I'd avoid the risk and decline. We all know there is a certain element who will try the substitution of used goods for new ones routine.

Also, we all know how difficult it would be to disprove and we all know the chances of eBay lending their support are zero.

My view is well done for spotting the pitfall in advance: decline, block and you'll find a legitimate buyer, without risking a serious headache, adverse DSRs and a negative. ;)

Maybe they have more than ONE baby.....TWINS for example!

Or , they maybe want the same item for Grandma's house?

There are numerous reasons why a duplicate item is required.

Personally I think you are being overly worried. I would sell the item without question.
The loopy one has gone :j

If you had twins though, surely you would buy both items at the same time, not one used one and then hope that you may be able to get one to match?

The Grandma's house seems more plausible though, hadn't considered that.

Or maybe after receiving the first one and leaving positive feedback, it got dropped and ended up under the wheel of grandma's trolley/car/Harley Davidson ... so now unable to backtrack and claim the original one got damaged in the post, they intend making out your one was broken in the post? :D

Husbands bought a used one, wife's had a fit and now he is getting his wallet out like he should of in the first place.

The possibilities are endless. I wouldn't block.
