A year ago I was using british gas for electricity, pay as you go.... I live alone, and I was told it's cheaper to go for direct debit, so looked on moneysavingexpert and saw N Power had a good deal. Joined their capped rate until this year August. My bills ballooned... on bills it says take meter reading but on the phone when I try give it too them, they refuse... I went on holiday for 3 weeks and some how my bill comes back huge.... And as you know they say i have been using a lot electricity when I am not..... anyone been in a situation like this.....

Plus, I want to leave NPower, who is good to join, would pay as you go metre, be better for me to go back too?

When your on a a credit meter you use more, due to you not realising how much your using. With pre-pay you know as your topping up
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I sort of agree with the last poster but I would put it differently. With a credit meter you need to be more aware of the reading on the meter and then verify that readings on bills are consistent with your meter.

I do not believe that the then NPower capped tariff would not have been about the cheapest in the market at the time, but...
...there is an approx. £50 "deferred discount" which you will forfeit if you switch before the discount is earned after 12 months. Secondly if your primary units are seasonally weighted you need to stay a full year for the primary rate units to balance, otherwise you will have paid more than necessary.

I suggest you play a longer game for the full 12 months but meanwhile scrutinise your bill for accuracy of readings. Or post the bill readings for help.

    Hi woofy85,

It sounds a little confusing if you say you haven't been using much and that we won't accept your reading?

If you want to, you can send me the details to forumresponse@npower.com and I'll try and see what's happened here.

    Kind regards,

    Adam :)
