Non stop emails being downloaded!

On windows livemail ( pop3 account) I'm getting 1000's of emails being downloaded- some are going into inbox but most are going ??
and where are they all coming from??

Any advice on how to solve this problem will be much appreciated!

Could you go into your ISP's webmail service (or browser version of hotmail if relevant). you would then see what is in the inbox, where from etc, and could delete the items, thus avoid them being downloased into yr Live mail

Try a spam filter such as Mailwasher.

I believe the trial version will only work on one email account.

It holds a "blacklist" that you can add to and I find it very effective.

You need to be clear what you have actually done, please.

I have seen this when someone sends you a very large file. It gets "stuck" in the system and your PC times out.

As it is a failed download it restarts downloading the whole lot the next time it starts (every 5 minutes!) and downloads all the stuff before the big one where it times out again ....... it waits 5 minutes and repeats the process until it gets a clean download.

You will have to delete the errant file ON THE SERVER. Either through Mailwasher (or similar) or by logging on to webmail through your ISP.

Have you tried the software route?

    Have you tried webmail?

Are you downloading email into an email client like Outlook Express?

You need to check the POP3 mail server settings in Outlook Express and ensure that "Delete message from server" is ticked. Otherwise even though you are deleting messages in Outlook Ex. they will stay on the server and just be downloaded again.

You may also need to compact your Outlook Ex folders.

In extremis you need to connect to the POP3 server via telnet and delete the offending message - probably a big one; Instructions here

    Who is your ISP?

Try their own website and see if you can access them through their webmail system.
