I think the mix of fruit & veg is important. I was advised to give more savoury than sweet to my son, but it was a long time ago, and things may have changed. Once he was underway on solids, I would give him fruit as a sweet if he ate the main course first.

I just pureed (sp?) everything and added some extra liquid, like stock, gravy or milk etc. I froze food in small yogurt jars, which I could sterilise first. Cottage or fish pies, soups or casseroles were really easy. I gradually purified the food less and less making it chunkier. I had a friend who had great difficulty getting her son to eat anything with texture as she left it too late.

Everything will be fine, it's just another stage but you'll soon get the hang of it. There are plenty recipes available to help you, but try not to complicate things too much and give her as much of what you eat yourselves as you can. Then just try to make her diet as varied as possible. (After the toleration stage!)
  • the book 'birth to five' from the health visitor gives some advice and suggestions. it says to give meat once a day to babies over 6 months but mine had meat twice a day sometimes and still does - given the chance he would eat eggs, sausages, chicken, beans and fish all in the same day every day!

it's harder to know what to give when everyone else's baby eats dairylea triangles and all sorts of dairy food.

your health visitor should give you som,e advice and if you are totally avoiding dairy then you might want to ask about being referred to a dietician who can give you advice and you can fill in a food diary over 3 days for baby's diet to be analysed.

My HV has told me not to give any diary food to LO till I see the dietician. (thats all her advice. She was refereed months ago but hasn't got an appointment till the end of April which I find stupid! (but thats another story)

My Mum told me this yesterday as she keeps grapping the spoon.... I put the food on the sppon last night and she put it in her mouth (after a few goes of missing) and sucked it off. :D

isnt it funny how some things just work!

my husbands nephew was fed for years and refused to feed himself as a toddler. so I was keen to encourage some independence ;)
I used the two spoons technique because as some else said you can sneak in a few mouthfuls while they dont notice ;)
