Hi can anyone point me in the right direction. Im looking food some good websites and recipe books for feeding my DD who is 6 1/2 months and was weaned 5 weeks ago.
At the moment she has a fruit puree at breakfast i.e blueberry and banana, apple and pear, melon and banana, mango...
Lunch and dinner with 5-6 BF a day.
But I m really find it hard to think of things to make for the lunch and dinner? I have the Annabel Karmel 100 baby purees which I have found useful for conbinations of veg and fruit that go well together but now I m not finding it that useful.
Also she is unable to have and dairy products at the moment due to an intolarance.
How much meat/fish should she have in a week?
How do you deicde what to make?
Where can I look for some inspiration?
esp on the meat side of diet as I m veggi?
Thanks confused Mum.

sounds as if you are doing well so far- the main thing is not to panic! I have Annabel Karmel's baby and toddler meal planner which gives loads of recipes (not just puree) including meat and fish.
I am thinking back and don't think I gave my baby a lot of meat and fish at 6.5 months, but started to give her more at about 7 months.
Why not try steaming some white fish (pick over for bones once it is cooked of course) and then mixing that with some veg and puree that? I made that for my baby (pollack and swede....) and she loved it.
You could try scrambled eggs (as long as eggs don't count as dairy?) making sure that the yolk and white are well cooked.
I actually made a little chicken curry for my baby and she gobbled it up!
I cooked in butter - a shallot, a little garlic and added a pinch of ground coriander and ground cumin, then added some chopped up chicken some sultanas and some water. Pop the lid on until the chicken is cooked and then whizz in the blender.
How about making some tomato "pasta" sauce? Onion, tin of tomatoes, some veggies all cooked up and then pureed. This is tasty and you can add some little pasta pieces once she is ready for some lumps in her food. I give garlic to my baby - she wouldn't eat it at 6.5 months but loved it at 7.5!

its important to introduce meats as soon as you can rather than just sweet stuff otherwise the littleun will get used to only eating sweet foods0

Just puree/mash whatever you are having if it's suitable. It gets baby used to your regular dishes, and you'll be less likely to have a fussy eater in later years.
I never bothered with recipe books and had mine eating all sorts - pasta, curries, chinese, chilli, etc. Now they are older they eat pretty much anything you put in front of them. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I was the same becles, i would cook meals, hand blend, and freeze just dont use salt when cooking, also say if your cooking spag bol or similar, make the sauce youself as you know whats going into it, the same goes for all really.
I'm sure you wont but dont hand blend any processed foods, my friend thought it would be ok to hand blend chicken nuggets and chips :j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
I think my problem is I m really nervous on what to give her.
I made her pasta with spinish, carrots, tomatoes, cougette and Leek for Lunch - eat one spoon0 -
The important thing is not to get too up tight...I went through the same feelings with my little boy (Now 18mnths). It took me a long time to relax at meal times! At the moment milk is still the most important part of you baby's diet ( up to 12mnths) Food is just about learning new taste and textures... if baby only takes one spoonful don't worry... just leave it and try again at the next meal time...the more relaxed you are the more enjoyable meal times will be. Keep a set routine and don't have other distraction...tv etc...think of it as bonding time!! Hope that helps and doesn't sound too preachy.
Food wise my lilltle loved butternut squash, carrot , quinoa, peas, sweetcorn cooked then blended. I used to cook a massive batch and then freeze in small amount...didn't take two minutes to defrost some more if he was having a hungry day. Also loved weetabix for breakfast!0 -
As others have said you are doing fine don't panic only 5 weeks in.At this early stage I wouldn't give anything with a very strong taste. Also dont worry if baby doesnt eat what youve made, it happens.Dont let it become an issue.
no eggs before 9 months:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0 -
Have a look at this website for some ideas. It looks pretty interesting. I did lots of pureeing for DD1 and it was all a bit of a palaver, this seems much less hassle.

I personally found weaning one of the hardest aspects of babys first year!
I read umpteen books and magazines but still strugggled, then one day it sort of all fits in to place.
I think it's just a case of trying things out, if she doesnt like something, move on and maybe try again another day, we all have likes and dislikes and you just have to find out what she likes and doesnt.
I tried out loads of things some he loved, some he was ok with and some he flat out hated.
The library will have some books on baby recepies if you get really stuck, i bought one in a charity shop and it had some lovely recepies in it.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
I just gave them what we were eating blitzed with one of those hand blenders.
pasta sauces/mince and potatoes/stew/chicken....no curry though
I would try not to go too pureed or too sweet...or she might end up not liking the chunkier things.x x x0
