Orange Data Charges
Options
I am hopping mad!
Upgraded to a a new HTC Wildfire S 4 months ago - I have been with Orange for years and years and no problems.
Every bill since then has had data charges applied.
My usual bill is £20/£25 per month but now it is £87, £68, £75 and this is all from data charges.
The first month I thought, ok its operator error, dont check the weather, news and facebook for two minutes each day and I got a technical minded son to turn everything off that could access the internet.
I kept a close on my bill online each month and for the first two to three weeks everything goes well - no data used.
Then the DD comes out the bank and its huge again!
The data charges seem to 'appear' as if by magic even though there is nothing running.
I have contacted Orange about this three weeks ago, they are adamant that I am using data and I AM NOT.
Again this month - watched he bill online each week and just last week it was nil usage outside of my phone or text allowance and no data charges - my DD cam eout yesterday and its £68.00 (£44 of which is blooming data!).
Spoke to a Cust serv asst this evening who went through all my phone settings and applications, internet/wifi and its all turned off - as I knew it would be.
I have asked them to supply me with a proper itemisation of times, dates and what exactly was used in the way of data and they have technical faults at the moment and cannot do that. They will ring me tomorrow when the 'tech guys' are in.
I really do object to having to pay for something that I have not used or authorised the use of.
And to add insult to injury, I have cancelled my DD with them so as I have 'some' control over what I am paying and they will charge me £3.50 extra each month to pay by MY CHEQUE, MY STAMP, MY STAMP & ENVELOPE AND MY TIME.
I I wasnt locked into a contract with them for another 18 months they could take a hike.
I have my faithful old cracked screen mobile sat on the shelf here and I am so tempted to go back to it.

I guess your tariff has no mobile data included. All smartphones use data without asking you.
Your options are:- Switch mobile data off completely in your phone (or ask Orange to do this on their side).
- Add data bundle to your tariff.
- Switch to another tariff that has data included.

How much data does the data counter in your phone say that it's used during the periods in question? And to add insult to injury, I have cancelled my DD with them so as I have 'some' control over what I am paying and they will charge me £3.50 extra each month to pay by MY CHEQUE, MY STAMP, MY STAMP & ENVELOPE AND MY TIME.0
