Taking Euros to Greece
rootdown
I'm flying out to Corfu on Monday and am worried about what's the best thing to do in terms of getting Euros: should I switch my cash before hand in UK?

You've left it a bit late to get a decent rate in the UK.
Short of getting a small amount from a high street seller to cover initial expenses I suggest you do whatever you had planned to do in the first instance (which I presume would be to use a local atm) as the rate should be better but you will incur whatever charges your uk bank makes for using your card abroad for cash advances.0 -
TravelEx are offering 1.207 for collection at airports (http://www.travelex.co.uk/uk/) - note that is for collection only, don't whatever you do buy at the airport
Tesco are currently quoting 1.210 for in shop collection (again, pre-order only)
Take a look at http://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/
Also bear in mind that some banks charge for buying currency on your debit card.0 -
Whats there to worry about? chances are you will get a fair rate on the high street of your resort..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

If you use a VISA debit card like the Nationwide flex card, the exchange rate today is shown below, I have cut and paste from the site, Nationwide charge 2% for foreign cash withdrawals, so you need to factor that in, I used mine earlier in June, and averaged 1.24 after commission
Currencies fluctuate every day. The rate shown is effective for transactions submitted to Visa on June 30, 2012, with a bank foreign transaction fee of 2%.
1 British Pound = 1.270620 Euro
So that works out at 1.24520 after the Nationwide have their bit, which is pretty good, the Post Office is 1.2030 and Thomas Cook 1.20800 -
1 British Pound = 1.270620 Euro !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Surely not
I'm seeing this on the visa site
British Pound to Euro
June 30, 2012
1 GBP = 1.245706 EUR
did you put 2% or -2% in to do the transaction calculation?
maybe you should be seeing 1 British Pound = 1.220792 Euro with 2% loading0 -

Yes you are correct
, I put in the 2% and not the -2% my transactions were
Leykada Branch LEYKADA EU 300.00EUR at 1.249
Leykada Branch LEYKADA EU 300.00EUR at 1.249 and so 1.224 after NW0 -
