Contract Advice
Options
Hi all, I have found myself in a spot of bother. This week I was unexpectedly laid off from work along with 5 others. This was not our fault, they closed a department. I have 3 contracts with Vodafone with phones for me, my wife and son. The bill is over £100 a month. Until now this has been affordable but I won't be able to pay it until I get a new job. What are Vodafone likely to say/do when I call them with this news?

If they are recent contacts of the YourPlan tyep (will be YP or YPL on the bill, then you cannot downgrade them at all, that said you cna always try and see what they say, but accept they don't have to and anything they will do is a good will gesture.
Assuming they do say no, consider selling the handsets (if they are reasonably new smart phones) and putting that money to the line rental.
Good luck in your search for a new job.0 -
Just called Vodafone. They can offer a payment plan but that won't help as I now have no income. They can't reduce the contracts. Great...0

What's likely to happen when I don't pay this months bill? They'll cut me off, but how soon? It will go to debt collection but how far will they take it?0
-
They will cut you off very soon, report a late payment and then a default to CRA(s) and yes, it will go to debt collectors.
By selling the phones you can delay this and reduce the total amount you owe. Basic replacement handsets cost a few pounds.Until now this has been affordable0 -
Some folk have strange understanding of the word "affordable"
As per grumblers post recover some of your total contract term cost by selling your handsets.
By entering into a contract you are agreeing to honour ther complete minimum term. You can't afford this, and clearly your belief you could was deluded, by selling you handsets you stand a chance of meeting your obligations without damaging your financial reputation.
Finally learn from your experience. My farts hospitalize small children0 -
