Hi I'm hoping someone can help,
I've just been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, though been suffering for a while now.
I've tried as best I can to live life normally but it's been very hard, Im thinking I may also need to give up my place at uni :-(
My hubby and kids are fab and very supportive but of course I feel ivevlet them down.
My question is will I be able to claim any sort of disability? Even if it's just enough to allow me to keep my car running which is a life saver for me, I'm also thinking I could do with the support of crutches as I'm feeling uneasy on my legs lately.
I'm hoping someone can suggest where I can begin with all this as never claimed disability ever >.<

Go see yr GP and ask to be referred to occupational health. They will assist you in the home with anything you need. My OH are brill, got my crutches same day xx Hope you get sorted xxxThe feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!

It's took me ages to get a diagnosis out of the dr! but she's put me through a multitude of tests and all very clear
Will try and get my !!! to the drs next week then and see if she will refer me, but is it as easy as that to do?? Me just walk in and ask to be referred??I love War Of The Worlds:heart2:

you could also contact social sevices yourself and ask for an assessment.

Me too - agreed the Justin Hayward / Jeff Wayne version with Richard Burton, Jeff Lynott and David Essex on vocals !
- you haven't let anyone down
- its an illness like flue or diabetes
- put 10 experts in the room and you'll get at least 20 diagnoses
Have a look through this and the best of luckDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. You can claim DLA, and ESA for CFS.
It is questionable if you'd get more than low-rate care, if you're able to manage, even struggling at university, for DLA.
In order to claim ESA, you would normally need to permanently give up your studies. (though this differs if you get the right rates of DLA first)0 -
It may be worth thinking about asking for a referral to a specialist in ME/CFS. The services are few and far between and there is huge demand so there may well be quite a wait and distance to travel.0

I agree with KxMx. M.E/CFS specialists can be very helpful. I didn't find mine very helpful but neither have alot of the other people I've spoken to who have seen her so think that might just be our service here!
As KxMx said, because the services are very few you might have to travel but it's something to consider and worth a shot.
I've known some people who have been helped quite alot by their M.E specialist and found them very helpful.
Also ask for a referral to OT as they are also a godsend.

Thanks everyone for all your help and advice :-)
Just reading up on evetything is shattering!!
The one thing that scares me is claiming disability and the medical assessment your sent for, from what I've read even the most disabled are turned down and told thier fit for work, all sounds a bloody joke :-(.
I think there is a team of specialists at Leicester general hospital do luckily not that far from me :-)
OT not so sure about where I would go see one of them :-s
It's all so scary and exhausting its crazy :-sI love War Of The Worlds:heart2:
