It can be difficult also to get DLA on a diagnosis of CFS alone (easier with ME as it tends to be more debilitating.)

Can you cite any reference on this?
All DWP documents I've seen refer to the two conditions synonymously.

That's how I've thought of it. The medical profession will on the whole say that CFS is the more correct and accurate name for what patient groups use the name ME. I agree that CFS is a catch-all term and don't use it myself but recognise that unfortunately agencies such as health services etc do.

And that is the issue right there.

The DWP state that there is some difference of opinion over whether ME is different from CFS; however, most authorities refer to the condition as CFS/ME.

As DLA is for care needs, and ME tends to be more debilitating, and therefore leading to more care needs, it would be judged on that (which is what I meant sorry.)

Not underestimating those who suffer with CFS as a primary condition, but ME sufferers *may* need a wheelchair more often (and often do), whereas CFS *appears* more manageable in that crutches are used to get around until tiredness/aching hits more often.

Where does Fibro fit into that? My partner's ME specialist thinks that ME and Fibro are the same thing.

There's certainly a lot of crossover between the two. The main deciding difference is that FMS has tender points. At least he has a specialist, none anywhere here.

Fibro and ME are not really the same conditions, but under the same umbrella, and have overlapping symptoms as does FMS, Lupus, MS, etc

I fully expect at some stage once more research has been done for FMS, CFS and ME to be counterparts of one another and listed as ONE condition and then sub- headed much like MS is (as in PPMS, SPMS, RRMS, etc)

I think that as well. I know someone with FMS and the symptoms are scarily similar to ME. I thought though that FMS is fibroyalgia syndrome ie fibro?

    FMS is fibro (fibromyalgia syndrome)

Why are you unhappy with your ME diagnosis? Do you feel it is something else?

I thought so but some have talked of fibro and FMS so confused me. :o

I'm not unhappy with my diagnosis, just meant that as I have ME the fact that there are rheumatologists doesn't help me. :(
