I once won a glass in a competition by Grolsch, and it was posted in a really flimsy box - not really cardboard, but more card as in the kind of thing kids would do art with.

    It arrived ok!

Yes ditto, I think there was two glasses inside a flimsy cardboard box with a thin piece of cardboard seperating the two. One glass was smashed to pieces and the other intact, like you mentioned very very flimsy cardboard with no bubble wrap or other packaging at all.

Nope, me neither, but the Ebay seller I bought one from at the weekend seemed to think this would be a suitable way to post it ... and it arrived today completely smashed to pieces! They seemed to think if they wrote "caution - glass" on the envelope it would somehow miraculously add more protection ... might as well have written "please drop me"

Words really do fail me sometimes! :wall:

Sorry to drag this back up again but I'm looking for some advice on this one now! :p

In all my years of buying and occasional selling, I (thankfully) have never had to refund nor to be refunded. This seller has apologised and said they would arrange a refund - they have not asked for any proof even though I offered photos. Now, that was 4 days ago and it was a Paypal transaction - is it not just a matter of going through the motions on Paypal for a "refund"? They are a business seller and are constantly active - they seem to leave at least 10 feedback per day and have continued to do so since they replied to me.

Just wondering if anyone can share any knowledge on this and how long I should wait.

    Thanks in advance!

I would email them again and ask if there is a problem as the refund does not appear to be in your account yet.

If they are using Selling Manager Pro they can set it to leave feedback automatically.

    As above, email them again.

Thanks for your advice. I messaged the seller through Ebay saying just this and got the response "Sorry, how much is it?" !!!! :wall: Seriously?!

I think someone is stalling on purpose ...

 Still no refund. Six days after I initially offered to let them see photos of the damage, they then decide they want to see them - this is after promising the refund on the first day. I sent the photos four days ago and it has been tumbleweeds since then...

I would prefer to sort this out with the seller rather than go down the SNAD route, mainly because the items are heavy and would cost me about £9 to send (which I doubt I would get back) and also because it is obvously broken glass and I am sure Royal Mail would refuse to carry it. Of course, SNAD might just have to be the way to go.

What I don't understand is that the seller is about 8 miles away from me - you would think they would want to keep a buyer sweet who lived so close to them and who obviously has their address and could just "pay them a visit" ;) (Not that I would! But they don't know that ... :p)

Just thought I would update this as I am quite surprised (in a good way!!) how it has ended.

Ended up doing SNAD for both items. Seller messaged me later the same day saying they thought someone else had done the refund and they would get it done that day (9 days ago) - still nothing as of today. I was able to escalate the case as and from today but before I did so, I sent a final message to the seller saying I was very disappointed and that I was leaving it up to Ebay now. I escalated the case for each item at about 7.30am this morning. Within, honestly, 30 seconds I had a message from Ebay for each item that:-

"We've decided to issue you a courtesy refund for this case ...."

    :T

Sure enough - money was back in my Paypal account by the time I logged in.

Never having had to go down the SNAD route before, I just wondered exactly what was a "courtesy refund". There was no time for Ebay to review the cases or even read my message so I was so shocked to get this response! Delighted though!!:rotfl:
Also there was no mention of returning the items which I assumed I would have to do - does this mean there is no necessity now to?

Funnily enough, at about 9am I had a reply from the seller saying they would issue the refund today ... little do they know, they already have!! :rotfl:

I was in the Post Offcie last year when a woman approached the counter hurriedly, slung the envelope under the glass partition and said "This needs to be in Australia by tomorrow morning!". :D

The Post Master tried politely to explain it was impossible to have anything physically touch down in Australia in 12 hours. :D

i think you've had a "no fault refund", basically ebay have paid you not the seller.
If you have not done so already, be sure to leave appropriate feedback for the seller :)
