Would you post a glass jar Yankee Candle in just a jiffy bag???

Nope, me neither, but the Ebay seller I bought one from at the weekend seemed to think this would be a suitable way to post it ... and it arrived today completely smashed to pieces! They seemed to think if they wrote "caution - glass" on the envelope it would somehow miraculously add more protection ... might as well have written "please drop me"

A work colleague has been buying china and vases for a shabby chic style of wedding and so far about a quarter of the items have arrived in a bit of bubble wrap and a bag and with 'fragile' on the bag or jiffy.
She's had small bud vases in a cornflake box with a sheet of newspaper (broken) a set of 3 tea cups and saucers in bubble wrap in a reused jiffy (broken).
She is seriously considering closing this buyers account and start ing again after the wedding as she's had to make so many claims as a number f the sellers wouldn't refund as it was the post offices faultI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Just remembered she had a fragile china tea pot that had been put inside2 bottom halves of a 4 pint milk carton taped together. A single sheet of bubble wrap was all that protected it and of course the plastic of the milk carton was so flexible it was no support at all and pot was smashed to pieces .I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. My daughter's glass vases for her wedding were posted in boxes with no padding.
The seller made her go to dispute for a refund.0 -
Valli now knows why she gets feedback which includes comments about how well-packed her items are!
I post in boxes - I've just sold an item (clothing) in a polybox and, although not fragile it is delicate and that's gone in a cardboard box and I used bubble wrap...
had I sold a Yanjkee candle it would have ben wrapped in a FEW layers of bubble wrap and then boxed, probably with shredded paper or screwed up newspaper to keep the candle in the centre of the box.
Mind you in a previous life I used to post out chemical samples and we HAD to have secure packaing for them - glass bottles would be packed in a tin like a paint tin and THEN boxed!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

In the past year at the main sorting office where I take my post I have seen two things- both mentioned already on here.
One was a lady with a huge mirror, covered in a black sack that slipped up and down as she tried to manhandle it onto the counter. Staff told her they wouldn't carry it due to it having no packing, but she screeched and shouted and said she knew her right (don't they always!) and they had to take it as she had stuck the labels on already. They warned her it wouldn't last 10 minutes in the office with the other pacels but she just kept hurling insults at them saying she always wrapped her stuff in plastic bags and it was up to them to make sure it didn't break- so they accepted it and in front of her wedged ti badly into an open cage and threw all my heavy boxes on top of it.
Another was a middle aged couple with two broken mugs. They had been sent them in just a thin cheap jiffy bag that barely closed around them. Both broken of course. They wanted their relative's money back there and then as the post office were appalling and couldnt even get two mugs to the destination without breaking them.
Again staff explained that two mugs together in a thin jiffy was not packing at all, but they shouted and yelled and in the end said they were going to th enewspapers about it as everyone knew what crooks RM were. Staff happily waved them out the door and told them they thought the 'Daily Mail' would love the story and to make sure they showed them the envelope they had been posted in. They also gave them a claim form which couple refused as they wanted a cash refund instantly.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I suppose some people must think that each parcel is handled individually, carried by hand to a waiting van, rather than being heaved into a cage amonst hundreds of other items.0

We used to have a great thread about weird things seen at the post office. A few years ago I saw a woman with a big fruit cake in a plain white cake box who was attempting to explain to the lady in the post office that it couldn't be tilted at all as it would crumple and be spoilt, and had to be carried completely flat at all times...hmm.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I would have loved to listen in on that conversation.0
