itunes - Click Help > Check for Updates. Latest is version 10.6.3.25

Jailbroken is the term used when the iphone has been unlocked and is using a different (unauthorised) firmware. Usually done to tweak settings and/or use the phone in ways that Apple don't allow.

thanks for this, think i must have had old version of itunes as well as it came up with update to 10.6.3.25, hopefully this will solve the problem!!
