The second two have better reviews, with the third being better, and even using those, you are saving, though the refillables have a better long term saving

If you use the Tesco and Asda own brand, you already use compatibles, so the art is to get the cheapest yet reliable ones

Have you considered yousendit.com or similar so they print it at their expense

I have just printed a test page on my Kodak printer. It says I have printed 3255 pages and used 9 colour cartridges and 15 black cartridges. So that is (9 x £12) + (15 x £8) = £108 + £120 = £228 / 3255 = 7p per page. The ANNOYING thing about the Kodak printer is even if you dont print in colour, the colour ink cartridge "counts down" until the printer tells you to replace the cartridge. For example, I had a quarter full colour cartridge and needed to print 200 pages of text, so I picked the option "black only" yet the colour cartridge came up as empty before I had finished printing.

My printers are supposed to use colour inks for shades of grey, and to keep the colour inks from drying out, which is annoying, but not as annoying as a printer which doesn't use the colours while running the colour counter down

I'd wondered why mine was doing that. I think the old Kodak did it as well seeing as magenta was always the last thing to go...

At least Kodak have a go at explaining it

    http://support.en.kodak.co.uk/app/answers/detail/a_id/24902/selected/true

" In some cases when you print or copy a text document, the text may actually be a shade of gray rather than true black. In this case a combination of black and color inks are used to print the text. Also, if you print or copy black and white photos, a combination of color inks are used from the color ink cartridge. "

Given your volume of printing, wouldn't a colour laser printer be a wise investment? You'll have an initial one-off cost, but the cost per page will be far lower.

  • Probably, I was wondering about a laser printer but I dont have enough knowledge about how much printing out costs!
