Samsung Galaxy S3 on Virgin Mobile Upgrade
Hi,
I was looking to upgrade my Virgin Mobile contract phone (which expires on the 18/07) and get the Galaxy S3. I can say that I am a loyal customer to virgin, I have:
- Virgin Media (TV-top pack/Broadband and Phone) = £60/month for almost 3 years
- Virgin Mobile (which I want to upgrade) = £26/month for 2 years
- Virgin Mobile (my wife's phone) = £21/month for almost 1.5 years
Thats more than £100 (excluding extra services such as movies, etc that I use) that I pay them per month.
When I called Virgin Mobile today to ask what deals they can offer me for the Galaxy S3, they gave me exactly the deals they offer for new customers (which are horrendously expensive) which is
- 2500min +unlimited web and messages for £41/month + £99 upfront cost
alternatively they offered
- 600 min + 1GB web + unlimited text for £38/month + £99 upfront
I was planning to up my minutes anyways and saw a deal from Three where you get the S3 for £34/month (2000min + unlimited web) with NO upfront cost. I told the customer service guy that if he can match Three's price, as I wanted to stay with Virgin.
Not only did he not accept that, he also did not give me ANY sort of retention discount. And when I told him, that in this case I would have to switch the network for a cheaper one he just said that I can give a notice of cancellation if I wish. I told him that I will shop around and will let him know before my contract ends.
Now I am considering if I should indeed change to Three (and while I am at it also switch to Sky or BT for Telly and Broadband), if Virgin does not value client retention.
What is your experience when it comes to upgrades with Virigin Mobile? Do you have the same experience?
Also, please suggest if you think my best action is to quit for sure or should I give them another call to see if I can get a better deal?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Remember they are not going to close down on the loss of your custom, so shop around for a deal that suits you, £5 poer month off is the usual 'loyal customer deal.0

They might then ring you and offer you a better deal. If not, switch to the Three deal you saw.0 -
I would switch the lot that's an insult for the money they are making out of you....Sky is cheaper anyway
The only thing i would say is make sure you get a good signal from the network you choose...GoodluckNobody is Perfect. I am Nobody, therefore I am Perfect.0 -
virgin are offering no discounts of the s3 they are very low on stock. 3a signal can be poor, have a look at Tesco phone shop0

Mate, I'm appalled I really am. You are an ideal customer for Virgin. There's stuff all over the place about "I spend 3 and a half pence per month with X network/provider, have been with 'em a month and retentions won't give me owt".
I'd seriously have a look at what you want (it's never 'need', remember), what you can get elsewhere and either threaten to shift the lot (if you find better deals and by god you should be able to), or start shifting bits of your ForePlay (snigger, snigger) package out... Prompto. How much do you spend a month!0 -
I think the only folk getting s3s on virgin are staff0
