for collection or mulch or side discharge ! or you after a combi , mulch and collect ?

i think prob a masport for cost and rear roller for stripes, but if a combi prob stiga is best

the masports have a steel roller but not split, so much better than the plastic rollers ,

the stigas are more of mountfields commercail range(alot of councils use them)

Wow those hayters go for a good amount on ebay.

I've got a push mountfield with a metal chassis, it's got some design problems which I've rectified, but it's been a good buy. About 10 years old now.

I would find out your local garden machinery shops and pop along to see what they have. Not a DIY shed, but a proper garden machinery shop where they do all their own work.
They often also have 2nd hand ones, which will be serviced and sorted.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
  • not many im afraid , they dont useally ebay esp the stigas with councils , u may get the odd masport , goin off what you have told me , the masport 22 inch cut rear roller rrsp 22 about £650 , you need a 20inch cut and above for the area you are cutting , i think masport give a 3 year domestic waranty aswell, depends how much you want to spend,

Do all rotary mowers collect grass really well without leaving much behind or frequently get clogged in the grass box?

My Mountfield collects pretty well when the grass is dry, but I can't always faff around waiting for perfect conditions. I carry a stick to poke build-ups free, when using it bagless to cut the hen orchard.

Generally speaking, I abuse the Mountfield, which was a freebie, and it puts up with it, so I'm well-impressed. :)

depends on the weather conditions alot, the cheaper mowers have a smaller exit from the deck to the bag and have naff blades, they do sell such a thing as a high lift blade which makes more of a vacuum in the deck giving the air flow more push to throw the grass in the box, also with enviromental noise issues, engines have been govend lowering the revs, in general the more you pay the better the machine ,but you really cannot justify spending alot on just for your own use

I ended up getting a second hand Hayter 41 Autodrive with electric start. Cuts well, seemed a little slow, so adjusted the screw to increase the rpm. The vary speed does not seem to work, not sure if the governor spring or something else is not working properly. The 12V battery doesnt hold charge so looking for alternative that will fit, as want about £50, seems though that it is not a standard size.
