ADSL2+ and BT

Options
Hi all,
My exchange has recently been upgraded to ADSL2+ making it possible to get speed of up to 17mbps instead of up to 8 which I am on right now. I am with Talktalk for my landline and BT for broadband and don't want to change either. Rang BT to ask about getting the ADSL2+ and they told me I need to change my landline to BT, only then I can get the higher speed. My question is, do I really have to have BT landline or are they just pushing to get a sale and it is possible without having the phoneline with them?
Thanks for your help.
Raf

Technically, at the moment it is because your connection will be on BTs new 2CN network, and this has not been released for wholesale use as yet, so their advice seems reasonable. The new service is like HD on TV channels, and is VOIP direct to the cabinet.

I was on ADSL2+ for over two years up to 14 month ago. I havent been with BT for probably 14 years, just one of many of the cheapest line rental and call providers.

I am now with BT for line rental and calls, not by choice.

I'm on BT's Faster Broadband Option 3 (up to 16Mb) officially although I've seen it sneaking into BT Infinity areas of 20+ at night-time (confirmed by BT Engineer last month who said it tops out as 23.7 meg - not bad for an "in-the-sticks" area), so the jubilee clip pipe of bandwidth is obviously expandable depending on who's online and sucking the bandwidth away from the at the exchange.

I'd to change my line over from Virgin back to BT (kept same number). The BT engineer told me what Buzby said above, so looks like it's mandatory at the moment until they dish out their goodies to Wholesale.
