I have fireplaces!
Living room:
and kitchen (Mr Minx included for scale!):
Small problem with the kitchen one in that there are two massive cracks in the lintel, so Pete is going to calculate whether we can insert a steel sheet underneath it to take the load and still open it up. Fingers crossed.
I've had to turn down work for tonight - hate doing it, but I've already got work to do for NEL tonight, it was for an overnight turnaround and I don't want to run myself to the point where I get overtired and grouchy. Trying to be sensible, but it's hard sometimes when I just want to blaze onwards with everything!0 -
Wow...looks so promising...I love fireplaces.

Hurray for fireplaces!! Fingers crossed that the steel sheet thing will work. That would look so wonderful!
Oooh and you can see old wall paper. I absolutely love old houses. How old is this one?
My eldest dau has been redoing an old adobe in Albuquerque NMex. US. It's one hundred years old... Not old for the UK, but old for our area. It's been very challenging, but it's turning into a wonderful home with charm out the gazzoo. You will be so rewarded with your efforts!Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Yippee to fireplaces - and good luck with the lintel.
Definitely don't crash & burn. You're doing so well, but its not worth it at the cost of your health.
Take care0 -

Wow, that sounds amazing! This isn't that old; it was built about 1900. There's a castle for sale about 45 miles away which has parts dating back to about 1475!
I bit the bullet and called the Halifax today to see if I had a current money transfer offer, as the code they'd sent me expired earlier this month. Turns out that I did (same code as well!), so after answering an endless stream of security questions and then getting a call from their fraud department to make sure it was me who requested the transfer, £9,975 at 0% for 21 months is on its way to my current account. The first instalment of the roof is going to be due in the next week or so, so that will more than cover that and give me a comfortable cushion for the other trades while I spend down the credit balance on the Barclaycard prior to taking another cash transfer off it - now that I know the dimensions of the living room fireplace, I can order the stove and flue kit, which is going to be a hefty chunk of it gone.
Good news though, I was emailing Mr RPC's mortgage specialist about something today and mentioned that my business manager at the bank had said that I'd have to get a commercial mortgage if I was going to be letting it out - he reckons he can find me a non-commercial mortgage that will allow holiday letting use at a better rate, so fingers crossed. Need to get it decrofted first, though.
My signature is currently somewhat out of date - need to re-jig it over the next few days, I think!0 -

Sig updated - once the Barclaycards go on it's going to go over the 350 character limit, so think I'll have to abbreviate the provider names!
