Good that the work's flowing in nicely...but yes to "I'll have a late start" never ending well! :D

Hiya!! Great to catch up..love your tales of dictation madness. Not usual to have Rottweilers being utilised on construction schemes though ;)

Mauritius sounds lush..well done for booking it and at such a great price. Something to get you through the winter for sure.

    Have a great weekend

  • Hello from a very, very soggy Highlands. The end of November is proving to be expensive. Yesterday I wrote the largest cheque I'll probably ever write in my life and stuck it through the solicitor's door - one small query to resolve and then I can get crofting! Someone on a local forum is selling a square baler and hay turner, so I sent them a message asking for more details and it looks promising - hopefully going to see them next weekend. Mr Minx pointed out the slight flaw in my plan, which is we don't have a tractor to power them with, but my thinking is that we know an awful lot of people with tractors but nobody with a square baler, so I'm sure some sort of exchange of labour can be worked out!

Next week the market research project kicks off, Journalist #3 would like me to do some work for her and I suspect Mr RPC is going to have a busy week for me, so despite it being a very busy week for the business team files, I've not put my name down for any yet. I'll have a look at the filled-in list when it comes out and see if there are any gaps I can fill without knackering myself.

  • hello from the soft south! admittedly I know very little about crofting but as a fellow farmer can I strongly urge you not to buy kit!!!!!!!!!!!!! it goes wrong................. a lot and of course whilst your NOT using it it is money tied up in a depreciating asset! Use contrators where ever possible. Yes you will need something to tend to your stock but even then there maybe opportunities to hire in what you require.
I wish you great good fortune in your new venture.

Hi Eco - that makes absolute sense when there are contractors available, but unfortunately the nearest ones are well over 100 miles away! At a total of £700 for both the baler and haybob, he's not asking a fortune :)

Exciting times Caz, hope it goes well and you get it sorted this week :T
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

  • Yes, it's a whole different world where you are in terms of just "getting a man in" isn't it! And yes to exchanges and bartering - that'll definitely work out, I'm sure! :T So exciting - and well worth the largest cheque of your life, I'm sure!

  • Well, I'm hoping that once I can get my hands on a tractor that isn't going to break the bank, I can become the local contractor ;)
