                    Hi guys
Does anyone know how you would go about removing artex from walls? My sister has just bought a house and the kitchen is covered in the stuff! Obviously this was very fashionable about 20 years ago, but she's not too happy about having it in her new place. Is it a very big/expensive job?

            Hi jellyang,
You need to be careful with artex as it can contain asbestos.

My SIL has just removed a whole lot of Artex from her hall walls using my steam walpaper stripper. apparently it takes a bit of work but will hydrate and become like papier mache and scrape off. HTHLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

Get yourself a nice friendly plasterer!!
I moved into my new property in dec and it was covered in the stuff.
The huy i used charged just £50 for a ceiling and from £200-£300 per room (and they where big rooms)
He brought his mate and did the living room and dining room and it was about £400 and done in a day!!
Best thing we did and the house feels so much nicer now. I seriously wouldnt bother trying to sort it yourself.0

I have helped friends do it with a steamer. Any plaster we asked wouldn't skim straight over it. So we had to take it down as much as possible. It wasn't the nicest job in the world, but we got through it. The whole blinkin house had been artexed.0
