Definitely agree with your choice of car. The 3 series are incredibly nimble and controllable with all engines and body styles.
Apart from the TCS being totally useless on my old E36 saloon, I really do not see what the fuss is about regarding rear wheel drive. Yes, the back end can be poked out, but it doesn't go any further than a capable driver makes it. There are plenty of s*** front wheel drive Vauxhalls out there for people who can't drive!0 -

A long time ago, I was approaching a set of temporary lights across a bridge, and there was a car in front of me stopped. As the lights turned to green she (an old dear) moved forward, and then suddenly braked. I was forced to do an emergency stop, on an icy road, which I sort of managed, coming to a stop alongside her, on the grass verge.
She did not notice and pulled away on a red light, leaving me to wonder what might have been.

Some unforntunates can aspire to nothing better, but hang on I owned a Vauxhall once in fact I owned 3 on the trot, the last one was a VX 4/90. What a pig of a car that was ! model was designed to take the Ventora 3.3.litre straight 6 engine and with the 4 cylinder 2 litre the front was too light and the whole heap understeered like mad.You scullion!
