There are times, thankfully rare and infrequent when circumstances require you to explore the previously unplumbed limits of your cars handling ability. Such an experience happened to me today and it is very much due to the hidden depths of my 3 series that I am still able to relate the event. I was driving below the speed limit (40) on a local decent road , no hidden hazards, no oncoming, no problems.
As I approached a minor junction on the left a car drew up to the double stop line and as I was about 10 ft away continued straight out in front of me . I swung the wheel to the right and back and she walzed around the **** who had done an emergency stop halfway across the road. I did not wish to discuss the matter with someone who obviously no intelligence so I did not stop, but looking in my rear view mirror when some way down the road she was still stuck in the same position presumably having filled her nickers.
Its times like these a really nimble car can prove it's worth. Think I will make my next car a BMW as well.

I discovered that my 2CV could mount a fairly high kerb, and trundle along the grass verge at 60mph without losing control, after an idiot decided to swerve on to the wrong side of the A41. I did pull over and take some deep breaths when I could though.0

Modern DSC systems can take a lot of the fun element out of driving but generally work very well when needed - at least BMW still include an On/Off switch for trackdays, etc.
Many years ago I had a similar experience on the A1 in a Citroen GS, car stopping, moving forward and then stopping across the carriageway. Luckily it was before the days of continuous central reserve safety fence so I could use the grass central reserve and the Citroen lived up to it's reputation for stability.0 -
Just goes to show where all that expensive chassis development time went.0

I've had 2 of these events so far, the first being almost exactly the same as yours actually.
It was raining, a lovely old dear decided to plonk her car firmly in the middle of the NSL road I was trundling down - the look on her face as she realised 1.3 tonnes of MG ZS was heading towards her was something I won't forget in a hurry! Luckily the ZS is built for handling, if I'd been in any of my other past motors I'd probably have ended up in hospital. Like you I managed to just zip around her.
Second time, same car, a learner did the same at a busy junction - no room for manoeuvring around that one! I wonder if they carried on learning after that. Managed to write the 08 plate Corsa off, my ZS got written off but I sorted it with a £25 bumper and a crash bar.
I hate car crashes, I seem to be non-fault accident prone.
I did get a good price for the car plus some whipcash - and only had to pay £150 for the car back.0 -
