Living Free

Ok, Im not sure if this might raise some eyebrows and get me some greif from other posters but here is what Im trying to do. I am trying to live for FREE, mainly to see if its possible but also would be cool if it was.

I have been getting told for years that I should be claiming ESA/DLA but have resisted at every turn because I did not want to be labelled as disabled and like to work for what I have. This changed somewhat when I realised how money is just being used to enslave the masses and has no real value apart from that which we give it.

I was at the time volunteering fulltime for a charity that helps homeless people and decided to see what was possible if you stopped caring about earning everything and tried to get things free.

I have now stopped working and am claiming ESA with a view to allowing it to progress to DLA. I am saving this money to buy a sailing yacht when I hope to leave the UK and be truely free (more on this later).

I was looking for somewhere to live and found a place that needed alot of work done. The landlord gave me an AST contract to sign so I declined and wrote up my own contract for him to sign. I didnt let him read it all before signing and kept pointing to other clauses that he would like. He signed it, with the first page saying clearly "Assured Tenancy", and one of the first clauses saying he had no rights to throw me out as long as I was offering to pay the rent.

* Housing Benefit now pays for the full amount of the rent.

* ESA gives me an "income", and soon to be DLA too.

* I have free unlimited wifi hotspot usage by buying a FON router from:
corp.fon.com/en
This FON router is plugged into a business broadband connection that I helped with some computer problems, and we have a signed agreement that it will stay connected. I have a wifi-bridge at home so that I can take the wifi signal and turn it back into a normal ethernet with RJ45 connector.

* I have a free telephone number with no monthly charge from
sipgate.co.uk
This allows me to take calls from my laptop anywhere in the world and sends any missed messages to my email

* I have free electricity as I live above a shop that my landlord owns, and he only has one meter so said he wont charge me for electricity

* I get free food from the charity that I help out as I save them thousands of pounds in IT / software, I also help to feed and house the homeless, in return, I get free food from the charity.

I am currently saving all this money to buy a sailing yacht. Once bought, I intend to leave the UK and look for a small island that has nobody living on it. There seem to be a lot around Greece, etc.

Once "free" of civilisation, I intend to live entirely for free on my own skills and hard work. Wind power will drive my sails, solar power my radio and lights, free water from rainfall, free fish & anything that I plant, build my own home with my own hands on an island, etc...

I'd like other peoples input on this idea, if possible?

If any of the links that I've given are useful then please mention it - also please post any you may have to living free?

Oh... I forgot to mention that I already have a mail-forwarding service agreed for free too.

I offered to setup a free telephone number with no monthly charges for the landlords company and would port his BT number over so that he can keep the same number, but it drops the monthly charges.

In exchange for this service (and for saving him the money), I agreed that should I move out to live aboard my boat (when I get one), that he would scan any mail that arrived for me and forward as an email attachment.

I will be providing him a cheap computer and scanner linked to the wifi signal in order for him to do this. I will also be writing him software to make it easier to scan mail and send them to me (where-ever I happen to be).

Anything that I then email back to him on a private hotmail account will be automatically printed and he will send it on. This means I can have a UK presence without ever being in the UK. All I gotta do is sail somewhere with a FON wifi spot and use it for free to check my mail :)

I'm intrigued and will definately be following this thread.

Not sure how I feel about benefits being used to purchase a yacht, but you give back to society through charity work so I think I'm gonna sit on the fence with this one and see what other posters say!
  • This type of thing has been documented in the news just recently. Some woman has lived x amount of years for free....

Just curious, but how much do you know about sailing and navigating an ocean going yacht and how much do you think one will cost you? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2130437/Two-untrained-sailors-lost-smash-yacht-bought-eBay-3-000-rocks-700-metres.html
Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.

Both me and a friend of mine that is thinking of coming with are experienced in sailing and the type of yacht we are after is normally about £60k (2nd hand). We nearly had one for £40k from the last owners family due to the owners death but couldnt raise the £10k deposit they wanted at such short notice.

The boat we have our sights set on is a Bavaria 42 (42' sailing yacht).
