What to do instead of party bags?

Hi,
My DD1 will be 8 soon and will be having a swimming party. Just wondering what to do at the end instead of party bags? I think 8 years are a bit old now for the traditional plastic toys and a pencil etc :rotfl:
Thought about just giving them all a piece of cake and one other item - but making that something a bit nice, but can't think what??? Oh and there will be a mix of girls and boys.
What has anyone else done?
Thanks

My son went to a swimming party when he was 10. At the end the hosts gave every child a bag of crisps and a bottle of juice. It was much appreciated as they were all hungry and thirsty after swimming.
How many do you have going?0 -

you can get a pack of 10 books etc quite cheaply from the Book People -

split them up and give them a book each and some cake? Or a themed sports bottle each with their slice of cake (get the bottles from the pound shop).0 -
really nice pink and blue swimming goggles are £1.99 in decathlon - we have them they are great http://www.decathlon.co.uk/x-base-junior-pink-id_5998296.html if that's any use to you0

Thank you - we've got 30 invited as it was the same price for the pool whether you had 5 or 75 going! But I'm expecting a few to drop out.
Another reason really why I want to try to keep it simple!
Oh and we are doing pizza or hotdogs and juice for afterwards as we get a party room for half an hour as well0 -
I got my daughter some little hello kitty bracelets off ebay sooooo cheap for the girls party bags at her 6th party in april, they were £1.50 + postage for 5!!!! They went down very well with the girls

Books - now that's a good idea, I like the idea of sports bottle s too - keep it to a sports theme! Thanks0 -
Have a look on ebay for sports themed bulk buys. Something that you won't mind having a few left over of....keyrings?0

This sort of thing is cute for the girlies and there are tons of football ones for the boys and maybe some rubber duck ones for those who aren't into football/flip flops! x
Go to eBay > Bulk buys > keyrings0 -
Hello!
My son is 8 tomorrow and we are also having a pool party. We are fortunate that their school has a pool, and am planning a swim, picnic and a game of cricket in the field if sunny.
We have done party bags but I have put in a Scooby Doo goo tub (50p), bubbles(£1 for 9 - Poundland), England wristbands (going cheap everywhere but 89p for 3!!) and England whistle thning ((89p for 10) and a sweet. Filled out party bag for about £1.
My son is however, a littley really and still wants pass the parcel and musical statues!!
Heres to successful parties “Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.”0 -
Here's a very MSE solution. You don't have to have party bags at all to be honest. When I was little they just used to contain a bit of birthday cake (if we hadn't already eaten it) a balloon, a crayon and a small box of smarties. By the age of about 8, the party bags had disappeared, and we got cake wrapped in a serviette to take home (again, if we hadn't already eaten it).0
