Tried to change my front wheel today Which is flat but having jacked it up and removed the bolts the wheel wouldn't budge. After ten minutes of trying to remove it and gently knocking it with my foot it was still not willing to negotiate!

Any tips to help get this wheel off would be great fully received...

It is seized on, not unusual. Remove wheel nuts and ensure car is firmly jacked (shake car to check). Avail yourself of a big rubber mallet or block of heavy wood and give the BACK (inside ) rim a mighty belt, or several till it gives . Avoid clouting the brake lines or lower steering pivots. I keep a heavy rubber mallet in my boot just for this eventuallity.

    More force!

Take it out of gear and try kicking the side/top, let the wheel rotate a bit and kick it again. Do this a few times and it will come loose.

You should use a trolley jack or axle stand rather than the standard jack as they are not very stable.

Actually you should never just use a jack to hold up any vehicle - especially a hydraullic trolley jack as the seals can go and then they collapse. Only use a jack to lift the vehicle and then put axle stands under it before releasing the jack.

I've tried the lot. Loosening the bolts, driving in circles, large lump hammer and a piece of wood on the inside, usually lying on my back and kicking the bottom of the tyre with both feet from the outside works. Although the last one took me hitting the inside bottom, and someone else kicking the outside top. Don't kick it off the jack or axle stands though.

Over the years I've had many of these, including a 2006 bmw m series a couple of weeks ago.

There is usually a place that you can lever the wheel of the rim by using a pry bar through the spokes, and a cranked screwdriver.

Kicking and knocking with a soft hammer just doesn't work in extreme cases and will result in a knackered alloy, you need to get to the interface of rim and hub.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Use a block of wood and a hammer.

  • Use a small wipe of coppaslip around the spigot before putting the wheels on and none of this clouting and heaving will be needed.

Leave the wheel nuts on loosly while trying to remove it. Much safer.

Never works for me, and I've taken to plastering the wheel and hub.
