How does a purchase made in B & Q appear as such on a bank statement? A credit card statement maybe, but not a bank statement. But even then it will not state what was purchased.
Are you joking?
If I go to B&Q and spend £50 on a drill and pay with my debit card, it will show 'B&Q £50' on my bank statement.
If I pay with a CC, the CC statement will show the same.
It won't say what was bought, but the shop and price would match.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

Doesn't matter that the specific item won't show up. A court would accept it as proof of purchase. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -

Sorry to derail a bit - I used a bank statement a year or so ago with New Look as I'd lost the receipt and they accepted it fine but I'd only bought that item at the time, would it still work if it had a different balance? Say I bought two tops for £24 but wanted to return one with the bank statement. Useful to know

The facts of the matter are that a shop is legally entitled to request proof of purchase when returning goods under SOGA. But they are not legally requested to give receipts.
Therefore they can't legally insist on a receipt, so other POPs are needed. A bank statement or credit card statement is perfectly acceptable.
And as these don't give an individual list of products bought, they cannot refuse a solution because of that.
But this is ONLY for SOGA. If you want to return a product simply because you've changed your mind, they are entitled to use whatver conditions and restrictions they want. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -

We tried the store before contacting customer services. The manager there wasnt helpful at all.
We figured out a solution ourselves in the end.
Ive been back to B&Q and bought 2 new sets of lights. Ive put the older ones that dont work back into the boxes and in a few days time will take them back to B&Q (along with my receipt) and claim a refund. In effect, I've got my exchange that I told customer services I'd be happy with
Thank you for all the advice...greatly appreciated xxx
But what are you going to do in a few weeks time when the new ones stop working? You won't have a receipt to take them back because you'll have already used it to take the first lot back - surely then you'll just be back in the position you are now?!xxx Nikki xxx0 -

OK, fair enough, I never use debit card, only CC.It won't say what was bought, but the shop and price would match.
Not if you bought multiple items at the same time.Je suis Charlie.0 -

Same thing again?
Of course, she's gonna look a bit silly if B & Q refuse her a refund and give her a replacement instead.Je suis Charlie.0 -

Even if they offer a refund by the sounds of it these lights have issues and break after a few uses - she'll be stuck in a constant loop of buying new ones and returning the old ones until B&Q get fed up with refunding!xxx Nikki xxx0 -
