To be honest, whenever I've read a 'war and peace' effort at terms and conditions, it's always been a ridiculous attempt to impose conditions outside of existing Paypal and eBay cover, which are less favourable for the buyer.

Unless it's something I can't get anywhere else, whenever I see an essay under terms and condions, I just think 'next!'...

    How about these?

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING - TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
    ABOUT ME
Be sure to sign up to my mailing list both here and on my website to be the first to know about all of my new items.
    DESCRIPTIONS
All of my items are detailed and described as accurately as possible. I never intend to deceive anyone or conceal any information, however if there is any aspect of my item descriptions that you feel is inaccurate or incorrect, please contact my and I will do my best to rectify it where I can. Furthermore, if you have some information you would like to add then please let me know. I'm always happy to learn something new, however please try and keep this as factual and as polite as possible. Statements that are sent to me in a condescending, insulting or downright rude manner will be ignored and more often than not just deleted.
When I sell military uniform or antique clothing, I take rough measurements for the purpose of giving you an overall idea of the item before buying - I am not a tailor and my measurements cannot be accurately relied on if you intend to wear these garments for re-enactment or similar. I sell these as display items only and no longer accept returns based on an item not fitting the buyer.
Furthermore, I'm no longer able to reply to questions regarding exchange rates and conversion rate. I get a lot of questions asking me to convert cm's into inches etc and replying to these questions is eating into my time which could be better spent photographing and listing exciting new products. I apologise if this is inconvenient but there is a wealth of online resources such as XE.com who specialise in currency exchange rates as well as sites that will convert sizes, weights and volumes instantly and accurately.
    POSTAGE
I will endeavor to post your item(s) within 48 hours of receiving cleared funds however some weeks are busier than others and despatch may take a little longer than hoped. Paying by Paypal* is always my preferred method. The quicker I get paid, the quicker you receive your item. I never profit from postage and packing costs. If I believe you have been overcharged for the service used, I will refund you the difference via Paypal after your item has been safely shipped. Remember however, P&P cost is not just the price of the stamp.
Please refer to the shipping table in my Postage and Packing page. Each item has a shipping code which will be included in the description - this amount will be what appears on the invoice I send to you when the auction closes. If you purchase multiple items, you will receive an overall postal cost calculated on the weight and size of your combined items.
    INSURANCE
I can no longer insure items up to the sale value due to Royal Mail and UK Courier's insurance claim policies. If I need to make a claim for lost or damaged parcels I can only claim to the value of the COST of the item and not the SALE value. Due to the nature of my business, the difference in these values can vary greatly. I can not and will not be held responsible for either Royal Mail or any Couriers failings. I do however, track or send items recorded in most cases.
If you as the 'buyer' wish to insure your item for the sale value then I will obtain a quote and invoice you appropriately in the understanding that if the item is damaged or lost by the carrier it is your responsibility to pursue a claim. Please see Royal Mail's Website for further details. You can also obtain the relevant forms from this link in the unlikely event of having to make a claim via Royal Mail.
It is important to remember that I want my packages to arrive with you in the same condition as they left me just as much as you do.
TAKING ALL THIS INTO ACCOUNT, ALL ITEMS THAT WE POST ARE DONE SO AT THE BUYERS OWN RISK.
    RETURNS
Unfortunately I no longer accept returns on auctioned items. I design my listings to be as concise, accurate and as detailed as possible and I also include as many relevant images of the piece as I see appropriate. I cannot reiterate enough to buyers that it is their responsibility to request condition reports and extra information regarding the item in question PRIOR to bidding. I operate much the same as any other auction house in the sense that all items are sold 'as is'.
Returns accepted under eBay's 'Significantly Not As Described' policy ONLY and I must be contacted within 14 days of the item being received. Items must be returned in original packaging and in original condition. Refunds will be made less return postage costs i.e. you return the item at your own expense. I do not accept returns based on items damaged in transit. I do not accept returns based on an item of clothing not fitting the buyer.
I will only accept returns if my listing is deemed inaccurate and therefore provides a misleading representation of the item purchased i.e. if an item sold as genuine is proven to be reproduction.
    FEEDBACK
Prompt Payment = Positive Feedback! Remember that sellers can only leave positive feedback these days and I will always do so providing you have honored your side of the auction agreement. Good feedback is vital to my business and I always appreciate our buyers leaving us good, honest feedback after they have received their items. If you decide not to pay me or just change your mind about buying the item, I will issue you with a notice via eBay to cancel the transaction in order for eBay to reimburse my fees. I will then follow the necessary reporting procedure via eBay.
Finally, if you have a problem with your item and you are not completely satisfied, please get in contact with me. I will always try to resolve any problems to make your shopping experience with me as fair and as pleasurable as possible.
    * By paying via Paypal you will automatically be added to my mailing list. If you do not want to receive my newsletters simply unsubscribe at the bottom of the email when received or reply to the email with 'unsubscribe' in the subject header.Thank you very much for your custom.

Good grief, I actually read all that lot. I can't believe a reputable seller can so misunderstand their responsibilities.

I had a really eye-opening experience 8-10 months ago, when I bought an item, paid immediately and after a long wait, it was postmark dated 7 days after the payment.

Worse still, the item was claimed to be fully working, but was faulty - OBVIOUSLY faulty. On contacting the seller, they wrote that on their ME page, they stated returns were only possible for 7 days and whatever date the postmark said was nothing to do with them.

I phoned eBay and took the representative through the messages and upon his reading the 'ME' page, he said that he had never seen anything like it. (Amongst stating that Paypal claims were valid for only 7 days, the seller denied responsibilities for items lost or damaged in the post and it was for the buyer to complain to Royal Mail).

The eBay representative sent me a voucher worth twice the transaction price and told me he would rapidly deal with the seller (business seller, by the way). But last time I looked, at least 6 months later, they were still in business and their ME page was unchanged!
