If so then in their culture or any muslim culture (from my experience) it is considered very shameful to clean toilets or do any kind of 'womens work' I also believe they have little respect for women in general. I think boys tend to get a way with things more than girls do. I noticed how the boys had much more freedom and seemed to be 'wilder' , whilst the girls were expected to do household chores and had a very limited social life.
yes you are right about this durham_mim. In Asian/Muslim cultures, the boys/men are not expected to learn how to cook/clean, etc, it is down to the women to do all this and are expected to do this for their father/brother/inlaws/etc
so yes, this young man is just behaving the way he has been brought up to behave. Unfortunately. But I am glad his parents have agreed they do not want him to move to another host family, they obviously recognise what you are doing, is for his best interests, not against him.0 -
I recently joined Pinecone (thanks to Aesop for saying they were recruiting and posting a link) - I did a survey a week or so ago and I have just logged on to find out if I will get paid... It says on there a payment date of 5th July which has passed. I haven't received anything yet in my Paypal or through the post... can anyone clarify for me how the payments work and how we receive them, and how quickly?
Sorry, bit clueless as only just started with Pinecone.

Sorry to hear about your student nat21. If his fsmily are happy I cannot see it being problem. Asking his to clean isthe loo is fine. That's the least he could do.
I have relisted some things on ebay and need to list some of OH's stuff.July £10 a day Challenge= £0 / £3100 -
I'm sure it only takes a few days for my Luncheon Vouchers. I've always been really impressed with how quick they've been.
Unless in my vouchers spreadsheet I've always been one behind!! But I don't think so as there was a time I didn't do a survey for a while, so I'm sure the ones that arrive are for the survey I think they are for, as I'd have caught up in the time without doing one.
As for you Nat..
All I can say is I hope it gets better. I understand that different cultures do things differently - but they have come to this country, to our culture (which Yes, I know can vary hugely itself in different areas, even within the same town etc) but there are general ways of doing things. I have always believed when you go to another country, you of course respect and observe their cultures. If you go to Muslim countries for example, you cover up appropriately when in towns etc (so long as you can let it all hang out at your hotel to get that tan)...
So to me, that should work the same way when other people come here. Why come to another country if just to behave exactly as you would in your own - stay at home.
My town gets loads of students, and things like queueing and crossing the road really REALLY bug me, as they just have no consideration for anyone else. You wait politely for a bus, then a crowd of them appears and just try and get on straight away, and just step out in big groups into the road willy nilly. The number of times I've had to tell them to move aside etc, as they are pushing into elderly people who won't say anything etc. Drives me mad, as you can see, hence the rant I've just realised I'm having.
Trying to think what point I was even getting around to making.
Ahh yes, the toilet. He's in our country, where it's acceptable for men to clean toilets, and to clean up after yourself in general. And to have respect for people. So damn right he clean it.
Your small child ended up covered in the mess of a boy who is more than old enough to understand that it's unacceptable to leave someones house in such a way, particularly with children around. I would have been FUMING too. And if any authorities were to get involved, then they would have to be mad not to see it from your point of view. Yes, they tend to favour the child, but in this case, YOUR child, a young toddler, who has the right to not be covered in crap.
I really think you need to look into making a complaint about this teacher too, as he/she sounds ridiculous and rude. Is there an english contact person who works for the organisation who sorts everything out - might be easier for you to talk to??Half of November Make £10 a Day Challenge: £51/ £1700 -
Thanks monkey, in off to the school in a bit to speak with the CEO, we're quite pally and she's made it no secret that she doesn't like his Turkish teacher. He seems quite happy now so hopefully that's the end of it. I'm going to see what she suggests, if she recommends he moves then I'll go ahead with it.
Expecting a nice sum of money from the students this week, about £500. Should of done a car boot yesterday but I was in no fit state, just wanted to get out the house away from the bu@@ers! Will deffo do one this Sunday as 2 students leave on Friday (:j) and the next 3 arrive on Sunday night. Urgh!

On a brighter note £ 30 in vouchers from ShopnScan.July £10 a day challenge £ 20.05 / £ 1550 -
Thanks for the info guys re. Pinecone, my first payment has just arrived in the post. I've been sent luncheon vouchers in lots of 50p and £1. I've looked on the luncheon voucher website but am still a little confused - can I only use one voucher at a time or can I use them all on one purchase? Can I buy any food item or does it have to be something deemed to be lunch, e.g. a sandwich from Sainsbury's? Also, with the chains that accept them, do you know if every branch does?
Sorry for all the questions, this is a totally new concept to me, I thought they'd be giving me cash into Paypal! Am happy with the vouchers though as my biggest cost is food.CC1 0%: [STRIKE]£6695[/STRIKE] £1432 CC2 0%: [STRIKE]£772[/STRIKE] £902L1 5.2%: [STRIKE]£9067[/STRIKE] £0
