My stuttering Mondeo

At about 1500-2000 rpm (eg after changing down) my Mondeo 2.0 petrol 'misses' and stutters slightly before picking up and accelerating. It's just been serviced, and the symptoms were there before and after servicing. Any ideas before it goes back to the garage?

What Mk/year?
If not the basics, spark plugs etc, can you get fault codes?0 -
2001, 2.0 Ghia X. Fault codes - how?0

2001 MK2 or MK3 ? Probably a MK3 but still a few MK2's hanging around dealers showrooms.
Usual symtoms coil packs and EGR valves. Blocked CAT?
Ever changd the fuel filter? Most services will miss it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Fault code reader (ebay) or garage should read them. I seem to remember my 2002 diesel having a bit of a weird setup there though; had an OBD2 port but used some Ford proprietary protocol, may only apply to diesels though as all euro petrol cars had to be fully obd compliant by the late 90s.
If it is fully OBD compliant, I'd recommend an app called Torque if you have an Android phone. Requires a £10 bluetooth OBD adaptor from ebay.0 -
It's a MK3. I'll start the easy way with plugs and work upwards I think.0

Anywhere near 40,80,120,000 miles? If so it'll be the spark plug leads.0

How can I be sure before committing money?0 -
Ha! Ha! Google my username and ford stuttering, my car is experiencing the exact same problem - it is discussed on talkford.com.
The general consensus is the EGR valve and have been recommended to get it blanked off.
However, the car is in for its MOT today and i have asked the garage to look at the stuttering problem - i will let you know what they come back with!0 -
well.............OH just picked the car up from the Ford garage, it has passed its MOT but they cannot find any faults!!
Not sure what to do now as the car has a stuttering problem in all gears between 1500 - 2000 revs just like yours.0 -
this could be Coking on the cylinder head, the fuel evaporates due to the extra heatHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
