Have you got a local Autism team at your coucil,. They are quite new I think. Some councils have special schemes to help those with learnign disabilities find work placement. Some even run their own work schemes. Connexions have a special needs advicor.
You could also talk to your local autistic soicety as they would know what schemes and support are available locally.0 -
I know how you feel. My 19yo was recently diagnosed with Asperger's, along with my 16yo daughter. Other son who is 23 has dyspraxia and ADD. Only my 19yo has received help and that was because he attempted suicide a few years ago. My daughter has been going to a social group once a week organised by the autistic society but that's stopped over the summer. I just feel useless, alone and left to get on with it.
Both boys did the Princes Trust and it was brilliant. A real confidence booster.
Seems to me if you don't make a fuss, and just get on with things you don't get help. The squeeky wheel gets the oil as they say.0
