Click start then run, type chkdsk /r (with the space), click OK

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CHKDSK

It will take a while to run so only do it when you do not need the machine or it keeps blue screening too often to use it

BACK UP BACK UP BACK UP!

Otherwise you will regret it big-time when your hard drive goes clunk and never works again.

You could try the free version of HD Tune

Program Version Date Filename Filesize HD Tune2.5512 February 2008hdtune_255.exe628 KB
Supported operating systems: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7.

It is unlikely the message for check disc will go away until you run it, maybe you can set it to run overnight.

You would get something like this afterwards

Good. I just have some scars that start to itch when I read about blue screens and disk drives.

Just run chkdsk /r whenever you are not using it

Usually it will repair or try to repair anything it finds wrong

Or ask the landlord to set it running, no need to move the PC

I'm always using it when I am home lol! But it needs doing before it dies on me. I should just do it now.

It will show you the progress through the five stages, some are quicker than others.

Everything will be closed anyway as it requires a reboot, you will see a message to type Y to confirm then press enter to reboot.

It is fairly automatic though the percentage may stick for a while, leave it be and it may complete in a couple of hours
