Bought a phone @ Phones4U - discounted with Vodafone contract?

I bought a phone yesterday from Phones4U and got a discount for having a contract with Vodafone for £20.50 a month.

The person in the Phones4U lied and said the contract will turn after 30 days to "Pay As You Go" but when I called yesterday Vodafone to verify they said it's incorrect - and I had to give them yesterday a notice to cancel that contract.

Vodafone confirmed OVER THE PHONE (I couldn't record the conversation) that the contract is cancelled and I will only be charged for the 1st month, thereafter the contract will be cancelled (and the SIM would be a "Pay As You Go" SIM).

My question thus:

How can I get a confirmation that the contract will be cancelled and that I won't be charged by Vodafone any extras? (I've already cut the SIM with scissors, I only took it because the guy from Phones4U said I've nothing to lose but to gain) ...

It sounds suspicious - what do you reckon? Is it normal?
Can I get any sort of written confirmation or email from Vodafone notifying me the contract is definitely cancelled??

Incompetent and lying salesmen are normal, especially at p4u.

You can if you insist. Also, they are supposed to send you a final bill showing no charges.
