The bill shows Mobile Internet costs for both the previous month and this month. When I was on sim only, I had to pay extra for this, which I knew about. However, I had already paid it for last month (as I checked the dates on my previous bill), so I have been charged twice, It has also been rolled over onto this month, even though I now get internet access as part of the contract.
Each bill shows out-of-allowance charges for the expired month and the advance charges for the next month allowance. You are not charged twice.
As the billing month doesn't start on the same day as your contract, your first bill is normally bigger as it includes pro-rata charge for the part of the billing month from the start of the contract.
You misread my comment regarding WhatsApp, or I did not write it correctly. I have not been charged for WhatsApp, but for picture messaging. I said I did not want to pay any extra for pictures, but it has been added on.
If you use WhatsApp correctly (including for sending pictures) you don't use anything except mobile data that is included in your contract..
For the amount I use, I doubt that I will go over the usage, but I do keep an eye on it......hence me noticing this in the first place!
You noticed this only in the bill, but you can do this during the month over a phone or online. Hope you noticed that paper bills cost extra as well.

Thank you for your comments. I was not blaming anyone in particular, I'm sorry if it came over this way. I merely mentioned Orange, as this is who the network provider is.So long as it is corrected, that's all that matters. It was just that after now the 4th month of payments being higher than expected, I was just a bit fed up. Hopefully, after this inital error, it will be ok.

This was checked online, I do not receive paper bills. I had in fact logged on to check my usage.

The picture messaging was added on to my sim only contract. But I said that I no longer wanted it with the new contract phone, but it hasn't been taken off.

As for the internet charges, my bill runs from the 16th of each month. The may bill shows Data Charges 15/5-14/6 £5.00. The June bill shows Mobile internet 16/5-14/6 £4.17, mobile internet and tethering 12/6-14/6 £0.00, mobile internet and tethering 15/6-14/7 £0.00 and mobile internet 15/6-14/7 - £4.17 plus service plan, and for photo messages charged for 16/5-14/6 and 15/6-14/7 + VAT.

To be honest I feel like buying mobile phones in store is a bit like buying a second hand car. The salespeople only have one aim - and thats to get you signed up. When your contract expires and you are thinking of a new one come back and ask here first, you'll get a lot more honest answers :)

the picture message bundle should be able to be removed by phoning Orange and if you explain that you didn't want this on your contract they might waive the £5 charge you already have. If not then go back to phones4u and ask for a refund from them. Is the mobile internet a bundle that was added on to your sim only? Maybe its something that hasn't been cancelled i.e. same as the picture message bundle?

Been in to the store and spoke with the same salesman. He told me that he had requested Orange remove these extras as they were no longer needed, and would give them a ring, which he did. Orange said that they would refund the charges, but only from today, not the full amount. So, they admit they were wrong, but will only refund half of it. The salesman advised to wait until my next bill 15/7, see what they actually refund, and make a complaint. So thats where it is. I also asked for then to ensure the answerphone was de-activated, as this is 35p a go extra, and anything else that might incur charges. So from next month, hopefully it will just be the price as quoted.

Answer Phone is only charged extra outside of your bundle on sim only plans - on regular contracts it comes out of your bundle of minutes.

If the bundles were requested by the retailer, then it is the retailer that should be refunding you for the error, not the network.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂
