I have a small scar just above one of my eyebrows, as does DH and DS2. Seems always to be that point at about that age that tripping and bumping things occurs!
My son caused his scar in a pub garden, running, trip, head on seat part of bench. No one's fault, the garden was safe, he was supervised, it was just an accident, resulting in a scar. He didn't catch the corner of the bench either, and I don't think the edge was sharp, they're generally not.
Anyhoo, the point I'm trying to make is that accidents do happen. He wasn't blinded, they called you immediately, you took appropriate action.
I wonder how many kids are actually blinded in such incidents? Not many I'll warrant. How many of us posting here have tripped and banged heads, or children have caught themselves in situations which lead you to ponder 'if that had been an inch lower/a moment earlier/a second later etc?I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
I've just mentioned this thread to my daughter - as I posted earlier, she has a small scar above her eyebrow because she cut her head when she was a toddler.
She has just told me that her scar has been a talking point at times, which can be handy as she is quite a shy person. If she is talking to someone new, and the conversation falters, the subject of her scar has come up and has often lead onto further, more interesting, conversation.
She also laughed when I said she is beautiful. I know I am biased, but she is - and her scar doesn't make her any less gorgeous!0 -
Eeek didnt realise it was that time, bed time for me! Thanks to those of you who have posted constructive advice on the question asked, it has definitely helped me make up my kind on what is the best course of action to take!0

I know accidents happen and am reluctant to put a claim in but at the same time am not happy that this has happened.
Pulling him out of nursery and sending him to another, safer, one will be a much cheaper and quicker way of ensuring his immediate safety. 'Claims' take a long time to go through and the chances are that by the time it was settled he would be in 'big school' anyway. Are you really happy to leave him in such a dangerous environment all that time?0 -

If they do something about the units I wont have a problem leaving him there

Well another way of looking at it, is that if it does leave a scar then he can always go as Harry Potter to fancy dress parties etc2014 Target;

My dd has two scars from nursery.
One was a cut to the head caused by another child throwing a toy car in the air and it landing on her - she was lay in a bean bag and it hit her on the forehead. Perhaps I should have demanded they lock that child up...?
The other is on her bottom lip after she tripped while running and knocked herself on a table. She was taken to A&E and almost had a general anesthetic to stitch it - we took her back in next day but it had closed enough that she avoided the surgery, thank goodness. She still has the scar and a rather large bottom lip though.
I have to say it didn't cross my mind to sue for either of them!
Why would it? Get a grip for goodness sake!! Crazy, crazy world we live in!0 -
How old is your child OP?
I'd be more interested in what the nursery intended to do about children running indoors than the actual unit - it's not the unit that's the problem (imo) any furniture is problematic if children are running and fall into it.
Accidents happen, even preventable ones. It's how they are handled. The cost of insurance is one of the reasons childcare is so expensive and if people start claiming everytime a child has an injury that could have been worse then that will just get higher and higher.
Try Bio Oil on the scar once any open wound is healed. It cleared a scar on my arm last year that I'd had since I was a child! It's great stuff.0 -
Or I could just give him a set of stanley knives and instruct him to run around the garden with his little brother whilst throwing them in his direction?
Oh look, I can make silly, over the top, unrealistic, exaggerated comments too .
What compensation is it you are referring to, as far as I am aware I havnt even put in a claim, do you know something I dont?
I apologise. I've had a crap week and brought my annoyance with you from threads on DT over on this board (I read this thread straight after one on DT). That's childish of me and something I usually try hard not to do.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
