Well I get carers allowance and not a penny more. Zilch...so £58.45 is all I get and that is what I live off.

    Hi
I am a carer and went to the CAB (Citizen's Advice Bureau) to get help on applying for CA. The CAB lady looked up in the documentation about company pensions (which I get) and said that they are disregarded for CA purposes. Sure enough I got CA from Aug 2012 to Apr 2014 when my husband had to go into a Nursing home. Hope this helps someone like it helped me.

Subsequently I applied for ESA and was rejected because I hadn't paid NI for previous years. I am appealing this, as CA should make NI contributions, but it is all rather frustrating.

BTW I have worked since I was 17 up until 2012 (40 years) only having 3 months off to give birth to my son. I will be 60 next year and can look forward to my Old Age Pension at 66.
