Yodel says package delivered - but it's not!

I bought something from mothercare for my daughter's birthday.

I knew that we were taking her out for theafternoon, but Mothercare's website said not to worry, if you're out when your package is delivered, you can rearrage (huge sigh of relief).

I noticed that it was passed to Yodel, and this morning it said it was in transit. I hoped it would come before we left at 12pm, but it didn't.

We got in and there was no card, so I checked the tracking, and it said the parcel had been delivered to 'customer', at 10.38am - when I was still in.

I tried to contact Yodel, but couldn't get hold of anyone. I rang Mothercare, and was told that the signature was for a name of someone I've never heard of (certainly not my neighbours).

I also said that I was in at the time, and that no card was left.

I've looked outside and can see no parcel. My neighbours saw us come in, and have always come round when they've taken in the odd parcel, so I know they'd have mentioned it.

I'm panicking a bit. I can't afford to lose it. They are going to interview the driver and ask where he left it. But I'm worried that if it was left with 'some' people in the road, they won't give it back.

What rights do I have, if someone else has signed?

You have the right to insist that Mothercare deliver the goods you ordered to you.

If things start to get difficult, just cancel your order and insist on a full refund of all monies paid.

You do not need to be concerned with what Yodel might, or might not, have done. They were contracted to do a job by the vendor and it is for the vendor to resolve the issue.

I'll be careful how I word this :)

We've had two items which arrived at Yodel's depot for delivery but never got any further.

Both were tech (a tablet PC and a phone I think) and therefore it's fairly easy to suppose what might be inside the package.

That was, I think, from the Southampton depot.

On complaining to the retailer and looking at forums, my partner did find that we were not entirely alone in having had that happen.

Similarly one of our neighbours had a parcel apparently signed for by someone with a signature we can't even identify. That one wasn't Yodel.

I think the recession might be tempting a few warehouse staff and drivers and some of the couriers don't seem to have adequate safeguards in place.

Having said all that, you need only deal with Mothercare and the previous post is spot on.

wealdroam is correct. Just to highlight the fact that you do not have to chase Yodel yourself. You paid Mothercare, it's up to them to sort things out with Yodel.
