Yes, there are several in Edinburgh, I stayed at the Shandwick Place one at Easter and it was wonderful for noise at least: thanks to the tram works, the road outside had a hole in it about a metre deep, and so, no traffic noise at all (which I thought was impossible in Edinburgh)! Bed was seriously uncomfortable, but no noise
Travelodge are a funny company; every time I stay with them I swear I'll never return, because I never get a good night's sleep, be it uncomfortable bed (why oh why do they only provide three pillows for a double room? They're so thin both me and my OH want two, so one of us gets a folded up bath towel as a second pillow), noise from residents, noise from traffic, fire alarm at 3am (no fire, some drunken idiot pressed the alarm for a laugh, I think), sauna-like temperatures, or whatever, I don't think I've ever had a perfect stay. But, when they're half the price of any other hotel in the vicinity of where I want to stay, I can never quite bring myself to pay the extra and risk still not getting a good night's sleep.
Last month a family emergency left me booking two rooms in Edinburgh with one day's notice: B&B comparison websites turned up nothing available near the relevant hospital for under £100 per room, Holiday Inn was £100 per room, Premier Inn was full, Travelodge had three different hotels available nearby, all at £45 per room. Not much contest really, wasn't a great night's sleep (window was broken so traffic noise all night) but the saving was enormous.0 -
I agree, sometimes it is worth risking/putting up with some inconveniences.
As I said I paid £19 for my Blackpool room. The hotel had a very scruffy entrance, a room that wasn't exactly big or decorated nice and the potential for lots of noise, because of its location and the nightclub.
However, the bed linen was clean, the bathroom was spotless, it had a working TV with remote and my 3G connection for my internet was very good and the staff welcoming and polite so I was happy.
I wouldn't stay there again if the price was higher than £30 - £40, but for £19 I would stay again and put up with the basic facilities and noise.0 -
I had problems with a stay last year & didn't get any response form them until I went onto their Facebook page & wrote on there how bad my stay was.
Had that bloody teddy bear replying to me :rotfl:
Got refunded though HTH0 -
From the website:
Travelodge has 3 hotels in Blackpool to give you that great night's sleep and everything you need, for less.
I had an absolutely dreadful stay in Newcastle, including sleep disturbed by drunk stag parties hammering on our door - staff were informed but did nothing. There was an info card in the room with a phrase in it something like a 'promise' of a 'good night's sleep'. I took it the the reception desk the next morning, and argued that they hadn't kept their promise, and that they should have done something to remove the drunken louts (who also set a small fire in the corridor and, of course, there was a fire alarm & the building evacuated!). They gave me a full refund of the bill for that night, whereas people in front of me who complained on the grounds there'd been a fire alarm got nothing.
I'd always suggest that in future you take it up with them there and then, and don't leave until you get either what you are asking for, if it's reasonable, or the name and contact details of someone to take it up with higher, and the name of the person on the ground who is refusing to help you. What definitely helped me was taking their info card with me down to reception and telling them they'd failed to deliver what they'd sold me.
Oh, and the other thing I always do now? Avoid Travelodge like the plague.:rotfl:Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -
I was disappointed with a Travelodge stay a few years ago. This was mainly due to basic room maintenance issues (bits of panelling missing in the bathroom, mouldy grouting in the shower, heater unit held together with sticky tape instead of being properly repaired). I took photos and wrote a letter to head office expressing my disappointment (I had paid over £70 for the night), and I got a letter of apology and a full refund.
For some reason letters carry a lot more weight than emails or comments submitted via a website. I think this because of the extra effort required to post a letter, which shows the recipient that you are taking the matter seriously and won't easily be distracted or fobbed off if they try to ignore your complaint.
Hope this helps.0 -
